Job description

Position Title: ICAPS Instructor (Adult Education)
Dept: Adult Education and Literacy
Employee Status: Temporary, Part-time
Reports to: General supervision is received from the Director of Adult Ed
Job Summary
The ICAPS instructor collaborates with the Career Tech (CT) instructor in the CT classroom and also teaches a separate ICAPS academic support class, which incorporates college and career readiness activities, student support coaching, and academic support for the CT course. More information about the ICAPS program can be found at www.rockvalleycollege.edu/icaps
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned.
  • Attend assigned CT courses to offer academic support.
  • Conduct an additional support class for ICAPS students.
  • Monitor individual student progress in CT class.
  • Plan course content and assign appropriate course work for ICAPS support class.
  • Collaborate with CT faculty/ instructors and the Transitions Coordinator to incorporate contextualized career readiness activities into the ICAPS support class.
  • Maintain student records.
  • Evaluate and document student progress.
  • Use appropriate texts and teaching materials.
  • Assist students to develop individual academic goals.
  • Participate in adult education meetings and staff development activities.
  • Assist in short-range and long-range planning.
  • Instruct students in the proper use of technology and classroom equipment where appropriate.
  • Show tolerance and flexibility in dealing with persons from disadvantaged social, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Show respect for cultural differences.
  • Complete assigned reports/paperwork.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BA or BS degree in education or related field is required.
Preferred Qualifications for Instructors
  • Three years' experience in teaching ABE, GED, Vocational, or ESL
  • MA in Adult Education, ESL, or related field
  • Training or coursework in teaching reading, math, and/or the CT content area
  • Experience with disadvantaged individuals
  • Demonstration of English proficiency in oral and written English
  • Teacher certification
  • Experience using technology for instruction
