Position Overview – Prep Cook 
theWit Chicago is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Prep Cook to join our culinary team. This role is responsible for preparing ingredients, maintaining kitchen organization, and supporting chefs in delivering exceptional dining experiences for hotel guests and restaurant patrons. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, values teamwork, and is passionate about food quality and kitchen excellence. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare recipes based on chef specifications.  
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen stations, storage areas, and equipment  
  • Follow food safety, sanitation, and health department standards at all times  
  • Assist line cooks and chefs during meal service as needed  
  • Label, stock, and rotate inventory according to FIFO standards  
  • Ensure consistent food quality and presentation standards  
  • Properly store food items and monitor freshness  
  • Support banquet, restaurant, and room service kitchen operations  
  • Assist with receiving and organizing deliveries  

Qualifications: 

  • Previous prep cook or kitchen experience preferred  
  • Basic knife skills and understanding of food preparation techniques  
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume kitchen environment  
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills  
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs  
  • Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays  
  • Food Handler Certification preferred (or ability to obtain) 

Work Environment: 

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout scheduled shifts  
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds  
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive motions  
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment with exposure to heat, steam, and sharp equipment  
  • Ability to safely use kitchen tools, knives, and commercial food preparation equipment 

Compensation: 

$20.00 per hour
