This role supports new build projects for utility and telecommunications clients and includes work related to directional drilling, utility tracking, conduit and cable placement, and ground restoration.

The Construction Manager (CM) will provide field oversight, quality control (including redline and print review), and leadership for small field crews (subcontractors and internal staff). This role requires a strong field presence, including crew coordination, production management, and on-site problem-solving. The CM will also interact with clients, perform light administrative tasks, and track/report project milestones, including closeout documentation.

A take-home company vehicle is provided.

Key Responsibilities

Field Leadership & Oversight
  • Serve as the primary leader for field-based construction activities across multiple OSP projects
  • Oversee and mentor field crews, ensuring accountability and consistent execution
  • Maintain a strong field presence to support teams and ensure alignment with project goals
  • Resolve escalated field issues related to logistics, permitting, safety, crew performance, and subcontractor activity
Project Execution & Coordination
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, engineers, and scheduling teams to align construction with timelines
  • Monitor project progress, milestones, and budgets; proactively identify and mitigate risks or delays
  • Review project plans, drawings, and site conditions to anticipate challenges
  • Ensure all work aligns with company standards, client requirements, and local/state/federal regulations
Team Management & Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop field crews
  • Conduct team meetings, one-on-ones, and performance reviews
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
Quality Control & Safety
  • Enforce safety protocols in compliance with OSHA and company policies
  • Perform site audits and inspections to ensure quality and adherence to design standards
  • Address non-compliance issues promptly in coordination with QA/QC and safety teams
Client & Subcontractor Interaction
  • Serve as a field liaison with clients, municipalities, and subcontractors
  • Support onboarding, oversight, and performance management of subcontractors and vendors
Reporting & Communication
  • Provide regular field updates and progress reports to leadership
  • Track productivity, crew performance, and project milestones
  • Participate in project planning meetings and post-project evaluations

Top Skills Required

  • 5+ years of experience in OSP or underground construction management, including directional drilling operations
  • Experience managing multiple field crews (e.g., 4-person crews) and performing quality control in the field
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with clients and multiple contractors

Key Requirements:

  • Flexibility and reliability are critical
  • Must have hands-on OSP field experience and be willing to work in the field 100% of the time

Additional Qualifications

  • Team-oriented with strong self-motivation
  • Proven ability to perform field duties and lead by example

Work Environment
