The Temporary Part-Time On-Call Wasterwater Operator Mechanic is responsible for the (MRO) maintenance, repair, operation, and inspection of assigned facility processes, structures, compressor stations and plant utility areas such as water, air, and nitrogen. Assemble, install, and repair equipment and machinery. Perform routine tank or vessel cleaning and minor mechanical, plumbing, and pump repairs of utility systems using a variety of hand and power tools. May work with other craft workers in the maintenance of site machinery and equipment. Operate forklifts, skid loaders, and vehicles required to maintain the facility. Monitor, inspect and adjust a full range of equipment using manual and automated controls such as PLC, DCS, or SCADA as well as hands on work to troubleshoot, maintain, modify, or correct problems. Observe and record readings on gauges, meters, and charts to register the aspects of facility process and utility systems. Perform sampling and testing to control process quality, and maintain operating logs, lab sheets or other documentation for regulatory compliance. Report process deviations, variances, and inventory levels to appropriate personnel, interact as required with other staff, agencies, vendors, and outside contractors. Notify supervision if additional attention or repairs are needed. Monitor and maintain spare parts and chemical inventory. Must maintain current training or certifications such as confined space entry, respirator fit test, and chemical handling training as required to perform the job.

• Regulatory Compliance: Must understand and monitor processes, analyze operational data and correct problems to maintain compliance, document information and know when to communicate problems.
• Safety: Must be proficient with WPP, LOTO, chemical and environmental contaminants or hazards, confined space rescue, fall protection, hazardous materials and hazardous communication.
• Physical Plant Operations: Performs all activities associated with wastewater, plant air, nitrogen and reverse osmosis systems, equipment cleaning and facility housekeeping.
• Equipment Operation: Must understand process flows, water chemistry, machine controls, automation and processes, manual equipment operation. Know the location and isolation methods of all associated processes, over pressure safety devices, utilities and infrastructure.
• Equipment and System Types: Influent and effluent, tanks, pumps, sumps, piping, valves, filters, presses, blowers, compressors, dryers, condensate, cooling, oil, electrical, pressure relief, meters, dials, gauges, and safety devices.
• Equipment Maintenance: Must complete scheduled PMs, install and maintain equipment and facilities, and maintain associated supplies, parts, and tools inventory.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested to ensure timely project execution. The intent of this position description is to include duties, responsibilities, or qualifications necessary to identify and evaluate the job but does not necessarily include all details of the job.

• High school diploma or equivalent, plus specific training in plant utilities and demonstrated understanding of basic math and written / oral communication, and (when applicable) able to read blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
• Work safely under general supervision, follow written procedures and verbal instructions, perform journey-level work, and manage time to complete assignments.
• Computer experience including email, payroll time entry and online training.
• At least two (2) years’ experience in a technical field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate Degree or higher in specialized technology applicable to water treatment facility and safety training equivalent to OSHA 10.
• Knowledge of equipment and types of chemicals used in water treatment.
• Five years journeyman level experience in a relevant field or equivalent experience in a commercial or industrial facility and broad knowledge of other disciplines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft products, Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Familiar with laboratory operations is a plus.

• Complete and return required administrative paperwork as directed, (e.g., timesheets, vacation slips, classroom and computer-based training, log sheets, PM / PE / MODs, service records etc.)

Work Environment

• Position requires work in commercial government facilities (e.g., warehouse, offices, projects, labs, outside locations, etc. where mechanical equipment is being installed, tested, analyzed, monitored, operated, and / or maintained. Equipment may be loud and noisy and / or have exposed moving components.

 Physical and Mental Demands

• Work environment involves some exposure or risk to physical hazards which require following basic safety precautions. Constant use of vision and mental alertness is required working in all types of weather (heat, humidity, sub-zero cold).
• Position may involve work indoor or outdoor locations where loud equipment with exposed moving components is being operated, monitored, or maintained.
• Able to perform all the typical repetitive physical requirements found in a warehouse position such as: walking, pushing, pulling, handling, grasping, kneeling, working overhead.
• Able to work in awkward positions for extended periods of time or in confined spaces.
• Position may involve routine carrying or lifting of 20 pounds (and occasionally up to 50 pounds), or working at heights, climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolds, and using scissor or aerial lifts.
• Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English to respond to visual and audible alarms.

• Keep office space, operating area, control room, mechanical room, warehouse etc. clean and orderly.
• Attend all safety meetings, participate in ES&H/ISM program activities, and stay current with assigned required training.

Hours of Work

• Typical shift is 8 hours per day, M-F daylight schedule, and must be able to occasionally work after hours on nights, holidays, and weekends. Schedule is determined by the company and business needs.
