Job Description

UL Solutions, will be installing a solar monitoring system (SMS) in Uva, Platte County, WY on behalf of one of our Clients. The system (roughly 25x25 footprint) consists of a few solar panels, (2) 7-foot tripods, and scientific measurement equipment surrounded by a fenced barrier. The system will be monitoring solar data as well as other meteorological and weather-related parameters.

The system requires weekly maintenance, on the same day each week during daylight hours to ensure consistent and accurate data is being collected for a maximum of 2 years.

  Your duties will include the following:

  1. Uphold highest level of communication as first point of contact for equipment in field;
  2. Ensure all equipment is level & clean on a weekly basis;
  3. Provide troubleshooting (w/support from UL Solutions) and when requested, repair(s) for low-medium complexity issues;
  4. Ensure there is no debris obstructing the system (depending on site/region, grass cutting, snow removal, or clearing brush); and
  5. Confirm the system is secure and hasn't been tampered with.

Each maintenance visit should take 60-90 minutes.  UL Solutions requires a weekly excel logbook uploaded via internet along with photos and other documentation to support the visit which should take 45-90 minutes.  The entire process is estimated to require between 2-4 hours each week, including travel time to and from site.

Occasionally, UL Solutions may request your assistance in replacing or troubleshooting equipment.  A Senior Engineer would contact you to walk you through the process. They will support you while onsite and review data after the equipment repair.  

Qualifications

**Job Qualifications**

  • Prior solar industry experience is preferred; however, training will be provided remotely with onsite training available as circumstances permit.
  • Demonstrated ability to receive and implement technical instruction remotely throughout the entire contract term.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable access to personal transportation to and from the remote SMS location. Four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicles are strongly preferred.
  • Physical capability to walk to and from the site, typically up to one-quarter mile in each direction.
  • Demonstrated competency working safely from 6 or 8-foot ladders (provided by UL Solutions).
  • Proficiency in equipment maintenance utilizing levels, screwdrivers, and standard hand tools (provided by UL Solutions).
  • Advanced computer literacy with demonstrated proficiency in data entry, spreadsheet management (Microsoft Excel), file naming conventions, and document upload procedures via SharePoint platform. Accuracy in data entry and file management is essential.
  • Possession of a smartphone capable of capturing high-quality site photography and enabling direct communication with UL Solutions personnel during field operations and emergency situations.
  • Access to a desktop computer, laptop, or tablet with reliable internet connectivity for uploading maintenance documentation and updating maintenance logbooks.
  • Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality of all project-related information and data throughout the contract period.
