Job description

Duties * You will perform a variety of tasks involved in installing, maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, modifying, and operating multiple different building systems and equipment such as; pipefitting, plumbing, heating, and refrigeration. * You will be installing, modifing, and repairing new and existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment such as steam-heating, steam generation, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, and circulating p.umps, and radiators. * You will work from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion, and operation of various piping systems and equipment. * You will modify, and repair new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems, water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers. * You will examine and operationally test electric, electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems and equipment using specialized test equipment. * You will perform routing maintenance on small electric motors, feed pumps, and valves, including replacing brushes, seals, and bearings, and repacking valves. * You will perform repairs such as replacing valve plates, broken flares, and copper tubing, repacking glands, adjusting expansion valves, replacing small electric motors, and making temporary repairs to pipes. * You will check temperature sensing points in various building areas and adjust controls to meet local requirements and desires. * You will start, regulate, and stop the various items of air handling equipment from central switches or from decentralized switches in fan or equipment rooms. Occasionally, may lift and carry items that weight over 50 pounds. Assistance is usually available with heavy items. * You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. * You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. * You may be required to work up to 60 feet off the ground on platforms, work stands, or ladders. * Work is done inside and outside, at an elevation in excess of 6500 feet and be exposed to dust, noise, asbestos, silica, fumes, grease, oils, electrical energy, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, inclement weather, steam and hot surfaces. * Position requires incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. * You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license. * You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses for the duration of the work shift. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. For the WG-10 : This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision to include: Installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing high-pressure piping systems; utility, supply, and disposal systems; plumbing; and domestic heating equipment and systems. For the WG-8 : This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of the position under closer supervision to include: installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing high-pressure piping systems; utility, supply, and disposal systems; plumbing; and domestic heating equipment and systems. Incumbent receives more detailed instruction relative to the performance of new, unusual, or more complex assignments.
