Position Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced NACE Level III (AMPP CIP Level 3) Coating Inspector to oversee coating inspection activities, provide technical leadership, and ensure compliance with project specifications, client requirements, and applicable industry standards. The successful candidate will serve as the subject matter expert for protective coatings, corrosion prevention, and quality assurance while supporting clients across multiple industries.

Pay rate: $52-60 per hourEssential Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform and oversee coating inspections during surface preparation, application, and final acceptance.
• Interpret project specifications, inspection procedures, and client requirements.
• Verify compliance with industry standards including SSPC, NACE/AMPP, ASTM, ISO, and client specifications.
• Review contractor quality control documentation and inspection reports.
• Conduct coating failure investigations and recommend corrective actions.
• Perform coating thickness, adhesion, holiday, environmental, and surface profile inspections.
• Inspect abrasive blasting operations and verify cleanliness standards.
• Monitor environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, dew point, and surface temperature.
• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports and final documentation.
• Witness testing and acceptance activities.
• Review and approve inspection documentation submitted by Level I and Level II inspectors.
• Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior coating inspectors.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and client representatives.
• Participate in pre-job meetings, safety meetings, and project planning sessions.
• Maintain inspection equipment and ensure calibration records are current.
• Ensure compliance with company safety policies and client safety procedures.
• Travel to customer facilities and project sites as required.

Required Qualifications

• Current AMPP Coating Inspector Program (CIP) Level 3 Certification (formerly NACE Level III).
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 7+ years of industrial coating inspection experience.
• Extensive knowledge of corrosion prevention and protective coating systems.
• Strong understanding of:
  • SSPC Standards
  • ASTM Standards
  • ISO Standards
  • AMPP/NACE Standards
  • Surface preparation methods
  • Industrial coating application processes
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and coating procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to pass required background screening and drug/alcohol testing.

Preferred Qualifications

• API 510, API 570, API 653, or API 580 certification.
• CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification.
• IRATA or SPRAT Rope Access certification.
• TWIC Card.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Experience in refinery, petrochemical, power generation, marine, pipeline, or offshore environments.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, tanks, towers, and elevated structures.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
• Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and bend for extended periods.
• Ability to wear required PPE including respirators, fall protection, and protective clothing.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
