Job description

The Information Technology Specialist provides on-site technical support for authorized systems, tactical communications capabilities, user workstations, collaboration platforms, and approved commercial IT services at Stennis Space Center. This role serves as the primary technical support point of contact for assigned personnel and is responsible for installation, configuration, troubleshooting, sustainment, and operational support of IT and tactical communications systems in support of daily operations, exercises, testing, and mission events. This position supports a broad range of technologies including end-user devices, audiovisual systems, SATCOM terminals, tactical radios, mesh networking systems, tactical data links, edge networking devices, and related communications infrastructure. The Specialist ensures systems remain operational, secure, and compliant with applicable Government, NASA, cybersecurity, communications security (COMSEC), RF spectrum, and facility requirements. POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Serve as the primary technical support point of contact for assigned personnel at Stennis Space Center. Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, connectivity, account access, printer, audiovisual, peripheral, and network-related issues. Support installation, configuration, maintenance, and sustainment of end-user devices and local IT systems. Assist users with collaboration platforms, conference room technologies, video teleconferencing systems, and shared communication tools. Perform routine system updates, equipment checks, software installations, and preventative maintenance activities. Maintain accurate records of IT assets, communications equipment inventory, configuration items, and support activities. Support setup, configuration, testing, and sustainment of tactical communications systems and edge networking capabilities. Configure and maintain SATCOM terminals, tactical radios, mesh radio systems, tactical data links, edge networking devices, and related communications equipment. Conduct communications checks and operational testing to ensure readiness and interoperability of supported systems. Assist with deployment and recovery of tactical communications equipment for exercises, testing, and operational events. Support temporary network establishment and edge node configuration in field or operational environments. Provide on-site troubleshooting and technical support during training exercises, demonstrations, and mission operations. Support planning and execution of exercises, operational events, and testing activities requiring IT and tactical communications integration. Coordinate setup and configuration of temporary communications infrastructure and user support services. Conduct post-event equipment recovery, reconfiguration, inventory validation, and operational reset activities. Ensure all support activities comply with applicable Government, NASA, installation, cybersecurity, communications security (COMSEC), RF spectrum, and facility requirements. Maintain support documentation, equipment inventories, troubleshooting records, and operational status reports. Assist with tracking system configurations, maintenance schedules, and lifecycle management activities. Up to 30% of travel is expected for this role, including overnight and out-of-state as required to support operations, customer engagements, or company initiatives. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 5–10 years of experience supporting IT systems, tactical communications systems, or operational networking environments.
Experience supporting government, defense, or military programs, preferred. Experience troubleshooting computer hardware, software, networking, and communications equipment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems, user account management, and basic network troubleshooting. Ability to configure and support audiovisual and collaboration systems. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and customer support skills. Ability to work independently and in operational or field environments. Active Secret security clearance required or higher.
Familiarity with RF spectrum coordination and communications security (COMSEC) procedures. Knowledge of cybersecurity compliance requirements and operational network security practices. Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft certifications, or equivalent technical credentials.
