Job description

Transform patient care and the community as a PRN Emergency Medicine Physician in Tucumcari, New Mexico.
Sound Physicians is a physician-founded and led, patient-first medical group grounded in one belief: better support for clinicians leads to better care for patients. Our emergency medicine teams are empowered to lead care locally with the backing of a strong national network committed to clinical excellence, intentional leadership development, and collaborative partnership. Here, you'll practice alongside care teams that work seamlessly across Emergency Medicine, Hospital Medicine, and Critical Care-creating smoother transitions, stronger accountability, and better outcomes for the communities we serve.
If you're looking for a place where your clinical judgment is valued, your growth is supported, and your work truly makes a difference, we'd love to talk.
Local Team Collaboration:
  • We take pride in our new partnership with an existing practice of 8 physicians and a practice coordinator at Presbyterian Dr. Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital.
  • Work alongside a diverse group of professionals with backgrounds from all over the world. We are an integral part of our hospital community and a valued strategic partner, maintaining great relationships with hospital leadership and other physician groups.
  • Our team actively participates in committees and leadership roles to support quality and process improvement.
  • Outside of work, we come together for social events to celebrate special occasions and share common interests like food and sports.
  • Accountable, on-site leadership: a local medical director who knows the community and owns the department's performance, supported by Sound's leadership-development tools.
  • Stable, well-staffed teams: cohesive teams aligned on our patient-first culture of excellence, which means less reliance on premium temp labor and more predictable shifts.
Qualifications:
  • Board-certified/eligible in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or General Surgery.
  • ACLS, PALS, moderate sedation exam, required for non-ABEM/ABOEM physicians.
  • ATLS required.
  • Caselogs, including intubations, in the previous 12 months.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
Flexible Scheduling:
  • 24-hour or 48-hour shifts.
  • Advanced scheduling 90 days out to plan for travel.
  • Hourly rate includes the cost for travel.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Rapid Assessment and Stabilization of Patients
    • Initiate life-saving interventions (airway management, resuscitation, IV access, medications, etc.) and decide which patients can be treated locally versus transferred. EM Physicians admin and round on inpatients on weekends.
    • Provide immediate stabilization for critically ill or injured patients, often with limited resources.
  • Coordination of Transfers and Consultations
    • Identify patients requiring higher levels of care (e.g., trauma, cardiac, stroke, or complex medical conditions).
    • Arrange safe and timely transfer to tertiary care centers, including communicating with EMS, regional hospitals, and specialists
  • Broad Clinical Scope and Resource Management
    • Manage a wide variety of medical, surgical, obstetric, and pediatric emergencies due to the limited on-site specialty coverage
Living and Traveling to Tucumcari:
  • Tucumcari is a quiet, close-knit community with a population under 6,000. It has a nostalgic feel, famous for its vintage motels, neon signs, and murals along historic Route 66, attracting travelers and history enthusiasts.
  • Dr. Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital has a dedicated sleep room for the physicians. They also provide all meals while working.
  • Traveling to Tucumcari, NM: Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport (AMA) in Amarillo, TX, is roughly a 2-hour drive. The airport has regular service through Southwest, American Airlines, and United Airlines
Rewards and Compensation:
  • Rewarding compensation structure .
