Job Summary
Under general supervision, the Front Desk Attendant works at the City of Bryan Neal Recreation Center and provides information to the public regarding the City's Parks and Recreation Department facilities, activities, and programs.
Essential Job Functions
  • Greets patrons as they enter the facility.
  • Provides information and assistance in person or by phone about parks and recreation facilities, programs, and activities.
  • Schedules the use and reservation of all City recreational facilities and park amenities.
  • Records and processes fees involving park and facility reservations, course registrations, and permits; accounts for all existing working cash assigned and revenues generated during scheduled shift.
  • Educates patrons on facility use rules and regulations; ensures adherence to rules and safety procedures.
  • Responds to routine problems or complaints regarding recreational services or programs. Escalates more complex issues to management as needed/directed.
  • Completes all required reports and records accurately and on schedule, and submits/deposits such records to the proper person or office.
  • Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phone, typing correspondence, and maintaining records and files.
  • Maintains a clean and neat work space.
  • Continually practices safe work habits and alerts management about safety and other workplace concerns.
  • Responds quickly to all emergency situations as needed.
  • Attends mandatory training, orientations, and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Adheres to the policies, rules, regulations, and procedures of the City of Bryan and the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Reports for duty at the times specified and ensures a high standard of personal presentation and appearance is maintained at all times.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must possess at least 1 year of clerical or customer service related experience.
  • Must possess cash handling/balancing experience.

  • Answer the telephone and provide accurate information to callers.
  • Use a computer for basic data entry and operate a variety of other standard office equipment.
  • Operate a cash register, handle money accurately, perform simple mathematical calculations, and make accurate and legible entries in books and records.
  • Encourage, challenge, and mentor youth.
  • Successfully interact with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Communicate effectively with patrons, supervisors, and other employees.
  • Work effectively as an individual and as a team member.
  • Remain constantly alert and aware of any potential workplace hazards and follow the safety practices and principles in reporting and preventing accidents.
  • Comply with City and department administrative directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate satisfactory work performance and regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • Provide management with sound, positive advice, and information concerning the incumbent's area of responsibility.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and communicate effectively with the public and other required entities.

Skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to respond to customer inquiries with tact and diplomacy.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are a plus.

Physical Demands
Physical demands include but are not limited to: sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, bending, stooping, using hands and fingers to operate job-related equipment, and occasionally lifting and/or moving objects up to and including 25 pounds.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office setting or a well-lighted and temperature-controlled working environment.
Equipment
Work shall be performed with tools, appliances, and equipment approved by those agencies and bodies that have control, authority, or approval of the design working ranges or limitations of those items; the employee has the responsibility to conform to those ranges and limitations.
Equipment may include but is not limited to: multi-line telephone, computer, printer, fax, copier, scanner, cash register, and calculator.
