Job description

ASRC Federal AFSS is seeking a Planner / Scheduler to support a NASA contract in Hampton, VA.

Position Summary

Launch your career at the forefront of aerospace innovation as a Scheduler, supporting mission-critical Flight, Space Technology, and Aeronautics Research projects at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) in Hampton, VA. As a key member of our program planning and control (PP&C) team, you will ensure the success of complex projects by developing and maintaining the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) that drives technical execution. This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated professional to provide vital project management support in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment where your work directly impacts the next generation of aviation, space exploration, and national security.

Essential Functions

  • Provide comprehensive planning and scheduling support for research projects managed at LaRC in accordance with NASA procedures.
  • Develop project logic networks and validate activity sequencing, durations, and resource requirements to ensure robust project execution.
  • Status, maintain, and control the IMS using industry-standard software such as MS Project and SSI tools.
  • Interface with technical leads to gather status and forecast information, analyzing data to determine overall project performance and risk areas.
  • Conduct critical path analysis and evaluate schedule risks to develop proactive "what-if" scenarios, work-arounds, and recovery plans.
  • Maintain the IMS baseline, documenting causes for slips and all approved revisions and project replans.
  • Identify and track key project milestones and interdependencies among internal and external project activities to achieve mission objectives.
  • Prepare and maintain the Schedule Management Plan (SMP) to define the requirements for monitoring and control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with project resource analysts and risk managers to ensure seamless cost, schedule, and risk integration within the IMS.
  • Develop Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and schedule hierarchies to ensure full vertical and horizontal traceability of project tasks.

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong analytical skills with knowledge of prototype manufacturing, flight hardware development, testing, and space flight project management.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and specialized scheduling tools including MS Project and Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate successfully with all levels of technical and project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time, prioritize work, and meet rigorous government reporting deadlines in a fast-paced team environment.
  • PMI Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP) certification is highly desired.
  • Must meet government and citizenship or permanent residency requirements for access to NASA assets.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as Business, Engineering, or Project Management) and 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, 4 years of relevant work experience in project planning and scheduling is required.

Onsite & Travel

The individual selected for this role must report to NASA Langley (Hampton, VA) at least 3 days per week; schedule may increase to full-time onsite. There are no travel requirements at this time; opportunities for travel to attend face-to-face meetings may be offered.
