Job description

Job Title: Senior Medical Content WriterJob Description

We are seeking a Senior Medical Content Writer skilled in crafting promotional and educational claims within the pharmaceutical industry. This role involves developing, substantiating, and annotating claims while ensuring the content is engaging and survives Medical, Legal, and Regulatory (MLR) review without losing its creative edge. You will collaborate within an in-house creative studio alongside creative directors and designers, ensuring that your writing functions both as a creative material and a reference text.

Responsibilities
  • Draft, refine, and substantiate promotional and non-promotional claims grounded in clinical data, prescribing information, and peer-reviewed literature.
  • Build annotated references and claim substantiation packages ready for MLR submission.
  • Write medical content across various formats, including HCP materials, patient education, disease-state content, congress panels, digital assets, video scripts, and sales materials.
  • Ensure fair balance, accurate ISI integration, and on-label alignment in all promotional content.
  • Partner with medical affairs and regulatory reviewers to efficiently resolve claim language, anticipate objections, and offer compliant alternatives proactively.
  • Collaborate with creative directors and designers to ensure copy and visual concepts are developed cohesively.
  • Maintain claim libraries and reference databases to expedite reuse across the portfolio.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of three years of medical writing experience in pharma, biotech, or a medical communications agency with direct experience in writing and substantiating claims.
  • Deep familiarity with the MLR review process, substantiation standards, referencing conventions, and common reviewer objections.
  • Strong command of AMA style and the ability to accurately interpret clinical trial data, publications, and prescribing information.
  • Understanding of FDA/OPDP promotional regulations, fair balance requirements, and ISI standards.
  • Ability to transition between rigorous scientific accuracy and accessible, engaging language for diverse audiences, including HCPs, patients, and internal teams.
  • Meticulous attention to detail in referencing, annotation, and version control.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in life sciences, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent scientific depth.
  • Experience with Veeva PromoMats annotation workflows.
  • Experience in oncology, immunology, or biologics therapeutic areas.
  • Experience working within an in-house studio or embedded content team.
Work Environment

This position operates on a hybrid model, requiring in-office presence from Tuesday to Thursday. The working hours are from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday. The interview process consists of two rounds, each lasting 45 minutes.

This is a Contract position based out of South San Francisco, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $64.00/hr.
