Job description

Where dreams and reality collide and the output is, out of this world. At Redwire Space, we are a team of dreamers and doers. Where the impossible becomes possible, and every day is an opportunity to learn and get one step closer to knowing the unknown. Join us on our mission to expand humanity's presence in space.
Loadpath, LLC part of the Redwire Space Missions team in Albuquerque, NM has a current opportunity for a Temporary Mechanical Engineer for a period of up to 90 days, with the possibility of conversion to fulltime to join our advanced design team located at our facility in Albuquerque, NM. If you excel at what you do, we would like to talk to you! We are a dynamic and multi-disciplinary team that innovates space mechanisms, multi-payload launch adapters, structural testing, deployable composite booms, high-strain composites, metallic structures, deployable space structures, R&D engineering, spacecraft thermal management components, and thermal analysis. With many more exciting projects on the horizon, our team could use your curiosity, passion, talent and experience to help us Build Above.
Summary
It is expected that you may not know all the answers at first, but that you are eager to find them! This includes a desire to learn new skills and concepts and apply your prowess to solve our customers' most difficult problems and invent new solutions. (If it were easy, they would do it themselves.) This is typically done by drawing on your fundamental understanding of the mechanical world and then exercising your artistic creativity to rearrange existing technology into novel applications and sometimes inventing entirely new technology.
This position will focus on developing state-of-the-art structures and mechanisms for satellites, launch vehicles, and missile defense applications. Some examples include but are not limited to general spacecraft mechanisms, hold and release devices, solar array drive assemblies, deployable radar arrays, gimbals, multiple payload launch structures, deployable satellite antennas, rocket bodies fins and structures, ground support equipment, test equipment, and their supporting documentation.
Responsibilities
  • Review and establish program requirements
  • Functionally own specific mechanical systems and coordinate cross team interactions for those systems
  • Develop and track schedules and meet deadlines
  • Develop 3D mechanism designs primarily in SolidWorks
  • Select materials and surface treatments
  • Perform preliminary analysis
  • Create manufacturing drawings using GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5
  • Create design review packages typically using Microsoft Power Point
  • Create and maintain requirements compliance matrixes in Microsoft Excel or Jama
  • Create assembly and build documentation in Microsoft Word
  • Intelligently defend your designs to engineers and customers
  • Directly assemble prototype and flight hardware in a laboratory environment
  • Assemble sensors and operate test equipment
  • Follow internal Quality Assurance (QA) processes and procedures in compliance with AS9100 standards
  • Provide feedback and recommendations for improving our internal QA processes and procedures
  • Interface with customers, subcontractors, and manufacturers
  • Operate in a dynamic, fast paced, and multidisciplinary environment
  • Take pride in courteous behavior and professional communication

Ideal Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, with 5 or more years of related work experience in Aerospace, Space, Energy, Semiconductor, Subsea, or other high reliability industries
  • Experienced with SolidWorks
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing
  • Familiarity with materials and surface treatments for use in space
  • Experienced with mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals
  • Some limited travel may be required

Desired Skills
  • Master's degree in engineering preferred
  • Familiarity with NASA standards, range safety, and launch vehicle user guides
  • Ability to calculate the reliability of mechanical devices
  • Highly proficient with Solidworks (1000+ hours), Solidworks PDM a plus
  • Experience with cradle-to-grave programs
  • Experience in designing launch systems
  • Finite Element Analysis experience
  • Ability to mass optimize a mechanical part
