Job description

Qualifications: 
Minimum: Must be working toward a terminal degree in school psychology; Missouri temporary authorization or provisional certificate for K-12 School Psychologist required.
Ideal candidate will have a professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast-paced environment.
FLSA: Exempt
Salary Schedule: Per Approved Salary Schedule
Direct Report: School Psychologist & Director of Special Programs
Terms of Employment: Full time, 196 days
Eligible for emergency telework: With Supervisor approval
Purpose: School psychologist interns assist supervisors with all duties under direct training and supervision.  These duties include, but are not limited to, conducting multidisciplinary evaluations for special education eligibility, offering consultation to teachers and staff, conducting functional behavioral assessments, assisting with creating behavior improvement plans, leading teams in data-based decision making, and providing guidance when building leaders express interest in systemic initiatives.  Supervision is provided by specialist level school psychologists and is tailored to individual needs and program requirements. 

Essential Job Functions:
  • Attend work in a regular, reliable and punctual manner.
  • To "telework" when requested by the District.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of the school district.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to properly identify students with disabilities and monitor compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Provide consultation and problem-solving on an as-needed basis for all students in assigned school buildings; collect and analyze data regarding students, classes, and buildings. 
  • Conduct functional behavior assessments for special education students, assist with the creation of behavior intervention plans, and provide individual/group counseling and social skills as needed for students with disabilities to access the general education curriculum.
  • Participate in professional growth activities and demonstrate a sense of professional responsibility.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of the St. Joseph school district.

  • Language: Read, analyze, and interpret testing information as well as special education and psychological data; create documentation related to educational and psychological assessment; communicate data and analysis to interdisciplinary teams, teachers, building administrators, parents, and students; communicate with and assist students in need of psychological, special education, and/or testing services. These are essential functions of the job.
  • Computation: Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and analyze data for instruction; apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. These are essential functions of the job.
  • Reasoning: Draw reasoned conclusions and make professional recommendations supported by data and research; demonstrate executive functions such as planning, organizing, remembering, and regulating information and behavior. These are essential functions of the job.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; perform multiple tasks simultaneously. These are essential functions of the job.
  • Technology: Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use; use district software to find student information and generate tests and reports. These are essential functions of the job.
  • Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis, and considerable dexterity in operating office equipment; school psychologists assigned to staff more than one school building will need to travel to and from their assigned schools as needed. These are essential functions of the job.
  • Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Sensory Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and speaking. These are essential functions of the job. 
  • Conditions and Environment: Work is performed in a typical school environment, which can at times be noisy and chaotic. These are essential functions of the job.
