Job description

CSS-Inc. may have multiple openings for Resilience Specialists to support . The successful candidates will support community resilience planning and nature-based solutions, including the design and delivery of learning products and services for coastal decision-maker audiences addressing the increasing inundation threats posed by climate change.
The role is contingent upon CSS winning the contract, please note it can take several months before we know whether this role will be filled.
Locations vary, but typically allow for fully remote work within a defined geographic jurisdiction.
Specific responsibilities and tasks will include:
  • Assess needs for learning products and services that support coastal professionals in the use and application of NOAA science, data, and tools.
  • Apply adult learning science theory and best practices to advance NOAA's learning resources and their effectiveness for diverse audiences.
  • Develop new training and products based on user needs and review of audience feedback in subjects relating to climate change, adaptation strategies, nature-based solutions, community planning for resilience, and natural hazards.
  • Deliver training for a variety of nature-based solutions courses, both online and in-person at on-site coastal locations across the country; provide technical assistance to partners and OCM staff.
  • Conduct needs assessments, interviews, and reviews of literature and existing resources and work with partners to develop learning products and services (e.g., case studies, job aids, webinars, trainings) incorporating lessons learned, processes and actions, and NOAA resources to enhance local coastal resilience.
  • Support communication, training, facilitation, and outreach efforts.
  • Examine training processes and training evaluations; recommend improvements.
  • May attend events and present on behalf of NOAA.
  • Some travel will be required for meetings, site visits, and workshops; as well as occasional local travel.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in a related field.
  • 2-4+ years of professional experience in environmental science, planning or policy, coastal management, or a related field.
  • Experience in the application of techniques to develop and deliver learning products and services tailored to the unique needs of adult learners.
  • Knowledge of coastal inundation science and management issues and applications required by coastal communities and decision makers.
  • Knowledge and experience in community-based resilience approaches, including nature-based solutions and/or land use planning activities.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in public planning processes at state or local government level or in addressing the needs of coastal professionals working in planning and management positions to use nature-based solutions to address coastal inundation issues within their communities preferred.
  • The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, manage time to achieve project objectives to meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to pass a National Agency Check and fingerprinting background check and maintain it through the duration of employment.
