Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Maintenance Specialist. - Boca Raton, FL.
The Maintenance Specialist plays a vital role in the comprehensive oversight, coordination, and execution of maintenance and operational activities within residential life facilities. This role ensures that all corrective, preventive, and emergency work requests are properly assessed, assigned, and completed while maintaining high standards of safety, functionality, and service.
Summary of responsibilities:
  • Independently oversee, inventory, direct, control, review and assign all corrective preventive emergency work requests, day to day repairs, maintenance work and activities of maintenance and utility matters in the resident life facilities.
  • Consult with the Assistant Director, Housing Facilities on a weekly basis concerning repairs. (Repairs can include but may not be all inclusive of minor repairs and/or replacement of plumbing repairs such as fixtures, valves, flushometers, traps; electrical repairs to fixtures or devices, defective bulbs, switches, fuses and receptacles in buildings; HVAC work and repairs such as regulate steam or hot water equipment, thermostats; assist with other HVAC, carpentry, painting and other building related mechanical and structural devices).
  • Evaluate independently the need for repairs for any and all defects, deterioration, and wear and tear on the facilities. Schedule repair work and coordinate work with Assistant Director, Housing Facilities. Routinely inspect all residential facilities and assure that deficiencies are corrected.
  • Enter, receive and report all work orders through the Housing on-line Work Order System (School Dude). Review and assign, in consultation with the Assistant Director, Housing Facilities, all corrective, preventive, and emergency work requests.
  • Identify, assess damages to proper parties, and make reports when necessary on all acts of vandalism to and in the resident halls.
  • On a daily basis, communicate with key administrative and staff personnel on special events and functions that may require special arrangements and other duties that may be required.
  • Coordinate projects with the necessary Campus entitles to ensure a smooth transition and implementation and serve as a liaison between Housing and Campus Facilities Staff.
  • Contact vendors and contractors and coordinate the work with the Assistant Director, Housing Facilities. Create and plan for special projects and summer renovations as needed.
  • Develop materials and supply budget and submit for approval to Assistant Director of Housing. Participate in P-Card program and keep track of all expenditures.
  • Communicate with the Assistant Director, Housing Facilities, Hall Coordinator, Senior Custodian, and Program Assistant regarding performance and special needs. In the absence of Assistant Director, Housing Facilities, assume the duties and responsibilities of the day to day physical plant operations and report to the Director of Housing.
  • Assist with the assignment of student and/or temporary maintenance assistants as needed to ensure the work is being done properly and that workers have the necessary tools and supplies to complete the job.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

A high school diploma and five years of appropriate experience; or completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades and one year of appropriate experience required. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
