Job description

Job title : SAS Administrator with Linux
Location: Redwood city, CA (4 days onsite)
Position type: Fulltime
A legacy SAS Administrator on Linux (typically SAS 9.4) is responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and monitoring SAS application server tiers (Metadata, Compute, Mid-tier) on Linux environments.
Key duties include managing user security via Metadata/SMC, applying hot fixes, tuning performance, optimizing disk space, and supporting client tools like SAS Enterprise Guide.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Installation & Maintenance: Install, configure, and upgrade SAS 9.4 platform components on Linux (RHEL/Unix) servers. Apply hot fixes, security patches, and manage SAS license renewals.
  • Security & User Management: Create users, groups, and Access Control Templates (ACTs) in SAS Management Console (SMC). Configure LDAP authentication and manage authorization rules to secure SAS datasets and folders.
  • Platform Monitoring & Tuning: Monitor SAS server performance (CPU, Memory, I/O) on Linux. Optimize configuration parameters to prevent metadata server bottlenecks. Manage and clean up temp, log, and work files.
  • Backup & Recovery: Perform systematic backups of SAS metadata, configuration directories, and user content.
  • Scheduling & User Support: Schedule, monitor, and troubleshoot batch jobs (using tools like LSF - Load Sharing Facility). Support end-users with SAS Enterprise Guide, Data Integration Studio, and SAS web application issues.
  • Linux Integration: Create shell scripts for automation, manage file system permissions on Linux, and manage data migration between environments.

Required Technical Skills
OS: Proficient in Linux (Red Hat/RHEL preferred), including shell scripting.
SAS: Strong knowledge of SAS 9.4 Intelligence Platform (Metadata server, Workspace server, Stored Process server).
Tools: SAS Management Console (SMC), SAS Enterprise Guide, LSF (SAS Grid Manager).
Storage/DB: Understanding of storage technologies (NAS/SAN/GPFS) and SAS/ACCESS engines (Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata).
Common Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in SAS Platform Administration.
  • SAS Certified Professional - Platform Administrator.
