Job Description:
Shield AI is seeking an engineering manager of Mechanical Design to support the development of our next-generation autonomous UAV platform. In this high-ownership, high visibility role you will lead a team of engineers developing mechanical systems to support Shield AIโs next generation aircraft program(s).ย

You will work the director of engineering in a deputy capacity to support collaboration across engineering sites, align technical leaders, create mentorship opportunities for junior engineers, and assist in leveling engineering resources across vehicles and programs.ย

You will set the bar for excellence through technical demonstration, guidance, and mentorship.ย

What you'll do:
- Support design reviews by providing feedback and signoff.
- Scope resources to support aircraft development.
- Assign individuals to projects and rebalance needs as required.
- Create processes and documentation that guide the development of systems.
Required qualifications:
- B.S. in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineeringย
- Demonstrable and successful leadership experience including hiring, budgeting,
- 7+ years in mechanical or mechanism designย
- Strong CAD skills (NX preferred)ย
- Kinematic analysis and optimizationย
- Structural analysis utilizing hand calculations and finite element methodsย
- FEA analysis: Modal, non-linear and linear, buckling, fatigueย
- GD&T and tolerance stack-ups for mechanical systemsย
- Materials selection inclusive of alloys, heat treatments, allowables, and finishesย
- Ability to work independently and lead in fast-paced, cross-functional teamsย
- A demonstrated record of working hard, being trustworthy, holding yourselfย to high standards, and being kind to othersย
- Ability to obtain a S//SAR level security clearance desired.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with UAVs, aircraft, or robotic systemsย
- Familiarity with electro-mechanical actuatorsย
- Proficiency in FMEA, DOE, and root cause analysisย
- Hands-on machine shop or mechanic experience (professional or hobby)ย
- RTCA DO-160, structural, or actuated mechanism testing experienceย
- Ability to thrive in startup, R&D, or defense innovation environmentsย
