Department: Cath Lab
Principle duties consists of assisting physicians in monitoring, collecting, and processing radiological and physiological data during diagnostic and interventional examinations and studies such as both coronary and peripheral diagnostic angiograms, PCI's (Percutaneous Coronary Interventions), PTA's (Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty). Monitors patients hemodynamically per department protocols and initiates appropriate interventions when indicated. Assessed patients before, during, and post-procedure, and documents accordingly. Prepares and educates patients and families prior to discharge.
1. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to assist physicians monitoring, collecting, and processing physiologic data during coronary and peripheral studies.
2. Delivers all medications, before, during, and post-procedure, as prescribed by physician, documenting all medications delivered per hospital policy, and indicating any adverse reactions.
3. Demonstrates knowledge and clinical expertise in performing Cardiac Cath Lab related tests, procedures, and treatments prescribed by a physician.
4. Performs emergency duties, including CPR, assisting with temporary pacemaker placement, and insertion of aortic balloon pump.
5. Performs physical and psychosocial assessment of all age groups of patients that demonstrates knowledge and consideration of age specific and cultural differences. Modifies nursing care to meet the age specific requirements of the adolescent (13 to 17 years), adult (18 to 70 years) and geriatric (71+ years) patients.
6. Additional responsibilities re outlined on the Clinical Ladder and are to be documented on the Annual Evaluation Checklist.
7. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to assist physicians monitoring, collecting and processing physiologic data during coronary and peripheral studies.
8. Completes and keeps accurate documentation of the patients medical records. Maintains accurate reports, records, and statistics.
9. Performs pre-procedure assessment of patient when appropriate and educates patient regarding procedure and any discharge instructions.
10. Fulfills on-call requirements and weekends as needed.
11. All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Experience/Skills: +2 years experience in a cardiac catheterization lab preferred.
License/Certificates/Credentials:
  • Current California Registered Nurse License
  • BLS and ACLS certification
  • CCRN or RCIS certification preferred
  • 3 years Cath Lab experience
