Summary:
A Production Sanitarian ensures food safety and compliance by cleaning, sanitizing, and disassembling production equipment, machinery and facility areas. Key roles include using chemical agents safely, inspecting areas for cleanliness, and maintaining sanitation records.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Equipment Sanitation: Disassemble, clean, sanitize, and reassemble production machinery using high-pressure hot water and chemical agents (alkaline, acid, Quat).
  • Facility Cleaning: Clean plant floors, walls, and restrooms, and follow the master sanitation schedule.
  • Compliance & Safety: Maintain sanitation documentation and comply with FDA, and OHSA regulations.
  • Inspection: Conduct self-inspections to ensure areas meet Quality Control standards.
  • Chemical Handling: Safely transport, mix, and apply sanitation chemicals.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or GED is often preferred
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects (50+ lbs), and work in hot, wet environments.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of sanitation chemicals, GMPs, and food safety risks.
  • Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail for ensuring cleanliness standards.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work various shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Experience: Previous food production, manufacturing, or industrial cleaning experience is typically preferred.
Environmental Conditions:
  • May be noisy and subject to varying temperatures.
Physical Capabilities:
  • Ability to stand for long shifts (8–12 hours) and perform repetitive tasks such as bending, reaching, and lifting (typically up to 50 lbs.)
