Job description

Reporting to the Department Head, School of Business and Professional Studies, the FT Faculty, Computer
Science is responsible for teaching a variety of undergraduate courses in Computer Information Systems (CIS),
Computer Science (CS), and Cyber Operations (CSC) degree programs..

Essential Job Functions:

โ€ข Teaching all levels of undergraduate Computer Science (CS), Computer Information Systems (CIS), and
ย  Cyber Operations (CSC) courses (teaching load is up to 15 credit hours per semester; may have release
ย  time to conduct research or other duties
โ€ข Maintaining professional scholarship
โ€ข Advising students
โ€ข Effectively manages the classroom environment
โ€ข Develop, maintains, and submits accurate, timely and complete records (attendance, assignments,
ย  grades, end of course notebooks, etc.)
โ€ข Conducting active research
โ€ข Ability to develop courses in computer science, cyber operations, and AI, including ethical and
ย  practical applications of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot).
โ€ข Demonstrated interest or expertise in ethical and equitable AI use in cyber operations, with a focus
ย  on fairness, transparency, and accountability.
โ€ข Participation in course and curriculum development, mentoring part-time faculty and students, as well as
ย  providing service to the department, college and the university
โ€ข Serve the College, the University, and the profession and community as appropriate
โ€ข As applicable to assignment as an academic Program Coordinator:
ย  ย  ย  oย  ย Regularly organizes, schedules and documents collaboration meetings with other program
ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย colleagues to:
ย  ย  ย  oย  ย Discuss matters related to the students in the applicable program.
ย  ย  ย  oย  ย Assess and review the needs of the program (faculty, supplies, instrumentation, etc.).
ย  ย  ย  oย  ย Make program curriculum revision recommendations aimed to address current market trends and
ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย submit to the Chair of the Department.
ย  ย  ย  oย  ย Coordinate activities with colleagues to enhance teaching and the learning process.
ย  ย  ย  oย  ย Acts as the primary faculty academic advisor for the students in the program.
ย  ย  ย  oย  ย Disseminates information to students relating to internships and job opportunities, research,
ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย seminars, graduate schools, supporting programs, tutoring, etc.
ย  ย  ย  oย  ย Composes an annual strategic plan and an annual operational plan for the applicable academic
ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย program.
ย  ย  ย  oย  ย Submits an annual assessment report.
ย  ย  ย  oย  ย Serves as an advisor for Freshman Orientation summer programs.
ย  ย  ย  oย  ย Assures submission of book orders for all relevant program courses.
โ€ข Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Minimum Job Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

โ€ข Masterโ€™s in Computer Science or closely related field. required; Ph.D. preferred or ABD will also be considered.
โ€ข Demonstrated potential for effective teaching and a strong record of scholarly activity in high quality peer-reviewed scholarly journals and conferences
โ€ข Computer architecture, Artificial Intelligence, Programming, operating systems, and networking
ย  expertise/networking/Cyber security are preferred.
โ€ข Conducting research preferred

Certificates, Licenses or Registrations

Must possess the minimum credential standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS),
which normally include at least 18 graduate semester credit hours in the subject area or suitable approved
justifications.

Physical Demands
Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours/day. Some lifting (up to 25 pounds occasionally), bending, and carrying.
Specific vision abilities include the ability to use close vision. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear,
and to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
