Job description

City Cast is hiring a Podcast Producer to help produce DC's only daily local podcast (M-F). We're looking for a versatile and inventive producer who cares deeply about local news and culture, and is excited about the opportunity to use podcasting to help people feel more connected to their city. You know how to identify great guests and to book them under deadline pressure. You also have strong audio and video editing chops and a distinctive creative sensibility. You can spot news from around the corner, figuring out where stories are headed in order to steer our coverage.
Deadline to apply: July 20, 2026 (applications will be considered on a rolling basis)
Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, research, and shape the podcast-helping the Executive Producer and Hosts decide on topics and guests.
  • Find, vet, and book guests, conduct research and pre-interviews, and write scripts--with an eye towards creating smart, fun, digestible, accessible shows that help listeners feel more connected to DC.
  • Coordinate with Executive Editor, Managing Editors and Executive Producer to translate articles and reporting produced by our reporters into compelling podcast episodes.
  • Record and edit episodes, injecting style and distinctive flair into each day's episode via your discerning use of good tape.
  • Cover for the Executive Producer when they're unavailable, ensuring seamless operations and captivating content.
  • Occasional work with the Hosts and Audience Development Manager to create daily social media content.
  • Contribute regularly on-mic, bringing your personality, local passion, and expertise to the show.
  • Contribute to an inclusive, kind, supportive work environment that enables you and your team to do your best work.
  • Manage podcast ad production. Write and produce audio for weekly podcast ads, in line with City Cast voice

Requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Deep passion and curiosity for D.C.
  • Proven ability to identify and build compelling stories, with a knack for pinpointing good "talkers" to bring those stories to life.
  • Experience producing interviews from soup to nuts--from identifying the right guests and pre-interviewing, to flagging the most valuable tape and editing it into a compelling story.
  • Excellent audio editing skills, with the ability to quickly identify the most compelling elements of a recorded interview, edit those elements into a clear narrative, and mix audio.
  • Experience making challenging editorial decisions in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong communications skills, with a knack for writing scripts that sound natural and conversational.
  • Experience with Descript and Riverside or the willingness to learn.
  • Confident on-mic presence with the ability to prep and contribute meaningfully to podcast conversations.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience making and editing video for social is a plus.

Required:
  • To be considered for this role, you must currently reside in the DC metro area, or be willing to move there within three months.

Benefits
The Producer will report to the Executive Producer, City Cast D.C. This position is full-time, with excellent benefits. The annual salary range is $75,000 - $100,000, depending on experience.
