Join Our Team at Millersville University!
The Department of Art & Design needs temporary part-time Instructors for courses in Art Education, including:
  • Student Teacher Supervision.

Temporary, part-time instructor responsible for observing and supervising student art teachers during their practical clinical work in a public K-12 school setting and providing the required written evaluations of student teacher's performances. In addition, the Student Teacher Supervisor regularly advises student teachers, visits them in their clinical experience site, observes and evaluates their performance, confers with the cooperating teacher(s), and serves as a liaison between the University and the area schools.
The purpose of this posting is to generate a pool of qualified faculty. Applications submitted will be reviewed on an as needed basis based on enrollment. Anyone meeting the qualifications may be contacted for an interview and potentially hired when a need exists. In the event that you are interviewed but not immediately hired, your application will remain in the departments pool of qualified faculty.

Duties and Responsibilities
EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND PERFORMANCE OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Temporary, part-time instructor responsible for observing and supervising student art teachers during their practical clinical work in a public K-12 school setting and providing the required written evaluations of student teacher's performances. In addition, the Student Teacher Supervisor regularly advises student teachers, visits them in their clinical experience site, observes and evaluates their performance, confers with the cooperating teacher(s), and serves as a liaison between the University and the area schools.
Candidates must be willing to travel during the school day to K-12 school assignments throughout the South-Central Pennsylvania region. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs.

CONTINUING SCHOLARLY GROWTH AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:In addition to teaching, there is an expectation for scholarship and service commensurate with the assignment.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:The Department of Art and Design, in the College of School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, is comprised of 12 faculty members, 3 support staff, 235 students, and offers programs in fine arts, graphic design, and art education, with minors in art history and studio art. At the undergraduate level students can earn a BA, BFA, BDES and BSE. Graduate level students can earn an MEd in Art Education.
Required Qualifications
  • Relevant MEd or equivalent.
  • Three-five years of K-12 teaching experience.
  • Evidence of ability to successfully teach diverse student populations.
  • Successful interview and teaching demonstration.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD or ABD.
  • Experience supervising student teachers.
  • Prior college-level teaching experience.

Essential Functions

  • Use computer for email, to submit final grades online, and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, college, university and community.
  • None or very limited exposure to physical risks.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
