Position Overview
Corrective and preventative maintenance of HVAC, refrigeration and mechanical equipment. Installation and operation of HVAC/Refrigeration equipment. The Technician 2, HVAC/Refrigeration is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems/equipment. This role ensures these systems meet the stringent requirements of pharmaceutical manufacturing and storage environments. Additionally, this role is responsible for conducting regular inspections and preventative maintenance on HVAC/R systems to ensure they are operating within the required specifications.

Job Description
Major Accountabilities:
  • Performs routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance of the site's heating, ventilation, air condition and refrigeration systems and equipment with limited supervision
  • Reports complex HVAC issues to senior technicians, management, or plant engineering
  • Oversees the installation of equipment, as required
  • Leads small projects related to HVAC systems and cold rooms
  • Provides recommendations to management to develop HVAC maintenance schedules
  • Mentors or provides training to HVAC technicians
  • Provides input to develop maintenance and repair plans for HVAC systems and equipment, including cold-rooms
  • Follows all safety protocols and guidelines
  • Routinely tests and certifies HEPA filters to prescribed schedule
  • Assists with maintaining contracts with external vendors, as needed
  • Conducts work adhering to system air balancing activities under the guidance of senior technicians or management
  • Assists site functions to qualify and maintain production ventilation and equipment
  • Interacts with vendors or other departments, contractors, and disciplines to schedule repairs, maintenance, etc.
  • Completes specialized training programs for HVAC systems
  • Works with Building Management Systems (BMS) monitoring program to trend and review specific data relating to HVAC systems
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with Utilities, Plant Engineering, and other support groups
  • Assists with revising and developing standard operating procedures (SOPs), as needed
  • Supports site operations and emergency work orders during off-hours, as needed
  • Performs other duties, as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
  • Be proficient in basic maintenance crafts such as pipefitting, soldiering, refrigerant recovery
  • Operate utility equipment such as chillers, air handling units, freezers, cold rooms, incubators and stability chambers
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and building automation systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of regulations and codes for HVAC work
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics
  • Effective communication, both written and oral
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment
  • Knowledge of system air balancing activities required for clean room environments and pressure cascade.

Required Skills and Certifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2-4 years of experience in HVAC maintenance and repairs
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational training in HVAC
  • Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification (EPA 608 Certification)

Preferred Skills and Certifications
  • Associate degree in mechanical, electrical, applied engineering or another relevant field
  • Prior experience with industrial HVAC systems
  • Prior experience working in a GMP manufacturing environment
  • Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or equivalent work order management experience
  • Experience with troubleshooting and repairing refrigerant systems, and testing and certifying HEPA filters
  • HVAC/Refrigeration Certification

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
  • Will work in environment which may necessitate respiratory protection.
  • May work in Mechanical/Production spaces that may require hearing protection and enrollment in a hearing conservation program.
  • Will work in environment operating a motor vehicle or Powered Industrial Truck.
  • Ability to discern audible cues
  • Ability to inspect or perform a task with 20/20 corrected vision, visual acuity, including distinguishing color.
  • Ability to ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, etc.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time. 12 hours
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time. 12 hours
  • Ability to conduct activities using repetitive motions that include writs, hands and/or fingers.
  • Ability to conduct work that includes moving objects up to X pounds. X 33 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, push or pull, reach to retrieve materials from 18" to 60" in height, and use twisting motions.
  • Will work in warm/cold environments. 0-110 F Range
  • Will work in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
  • Will work in small and/or enclosed spaces.
  • Will work in heights greater than 4 feet
