Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a dependable, highly motivated individual for the position of Environmental Services (cleaner/housekeeper) that is dedicated to both high-quality work and safety. The Environmental Service position is responsible for routine and isolation cleaning protocols, disinfecting patient rooms, clinical spaces, common areas, floor maintenance and assigned medical equipment and manual material handling daily within healthcare facilities, in accordance with Alberta Health Services standards and practices. Environmental Services work is done in areas where patients, staff and visitors are present and involves frequent interactions with patients, clients and staff. This position will also perform non-routine and deep cleaning tasks as assigned, so you must be willing to work with powered industrial equipment. Environmental Services is about more than providing a pleasant atmosphere, it is about ensuring hospitals and healthcare facilities are properly cleaned, disinfected and maintained to provide a healthy environment for everyone. Shift schedules may include a combination of day, evening, nights, and weekend shifts.

Description:

As an Environmental Services staff, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with cleaning and disinfecting clinical and non-clinical healthcare environments within a hospital or facility. Your typical duties may include sweeping, mopping and vacuuming; restocking supplies in bathroom facilities; stripping linen and making beds; operating industrial cleaning equipment for floor maintenance and restoration; thorough washing of ceilings and windows; emptying hazardous waste; and replenishing cleaning supplies and linens. You will also be responsible for identifying and reporting potential hazards to your Working Leader and you may also provide training or orientation to Environmental or Laundry staff.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Knowledge and operation of computers and smartphones. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements for the duration of your shift. Physically capable to lift up to 25 lbs and push and pull up to 50 lbs of force.

Additional Required Qualifications:

The ability to operate a smartphone device and basic computer knowledge to access email is required. To enable applicants to perform their duties safely, they must demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, understand, and follow written and oral directions in English. Must be dependable, thorough and be able to work with minimal supervision. The ability to work with chemical cleaners is required. The ability to operate powered industrial equipment is required. The ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs of force frequently is required. A combination of education, training and relevant experience may be considered. All new employees will be required to attend a 4-day Environmental Services Orientation and a 1-day AHS Orientation. Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum of 1 year of previous experience performing environmental cleaning duties in a hospital or institution is preferred. A minimum of 1 year of customer service experience is preferred. Previous knowledge and application of WHMIS is preferred. Previous Ergonomics and Workplace Health and Safety courses are an asset. Experience operating and maintaining various industrial equipment is an asset. Experience with floor refinishing, including stripping and waxing is an asset.
