Job description

Job Title: Groundman/ Underground Directional Drilling
Industry: Utilities, Power, Telecommunications, and Pipeline
Department: Operations Reports To: Field Supervisor
Location: Tampa, FL
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time
Compensation: Hourly, Health Benefits, Dental, Vision, Paid Vacation, Paid Holidays
Job Summary:
Under general supervision, this position performs tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, and replacement of electric underground cable. Including the set-up and clean-up process before and after placing the material underground. The person in this position is required to follow specific directions provided by the underground directional drill operator and the underground bore crew foreman.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Must follow all company's safety policies and procedures to ensure that appropriate safety precautions are taken in all circumstances and at all times.
  • Attend and participate in all safety meetings and training.
  • Dig pits and trenches manually or mechanically.
  • Perform site set-up and clean-up.
  • Restore and landscape disturbed areas of the jobsite.
  • Lay dirt, sand, grass seed and straw as needed.
  • Refill holes, trenches, and compact soil to ensure that it is packed down and even.
  • Place temporary asphalt patches or concrete on streets as needed.
  • Fill machines with diesel and grease machines as needed.
  • Clean vehicles, trailers, tools and equipment.
  • Safely and correctly direct multi-directional traffic with appropriate signage.
  • Safely identify utilities in the trench/bore path.
  • Use splice to connect pipe.
  • Hook up hoses to drilling machine
  • Place hammer on drill.
  • Use dirt head to pull back fiber optics and pipe.
  • Operate machines in occasion (requires experience).
  • Check equipment for safety.
  • Station equipment in safe area.
  • Drive a company's truck to job sites if necessary.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned by supervisor.

Ability and skills
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work responsibly and communicate effectively with crew members.
  • Ability to operate manual and mechanical equipment necessary to complete jobs.
  • Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., follow safety policies and procedures before, during and after drilling).

Knowledge
  • Service experience of 1 year preferred.
  • The person in this position must have the ability to learn to operate new equipment and receive on-the-job training.
  • Must have or able to obtain knowledge of "safety compliances" associated with trenching and drilling procedures.

Requirements
  • Able to work outdoors in all types of weather and conditions.
  • Able to work with loud noises.
  • Able to lifts and load workpieces or equipment of minimum 50 pounds in a daily basis.
  • Able to comply with job physical demands (e.g., standing, walking, driving, lifting etc.).
  • Able to pass a pre-employment screening that includes background check and
  • drug testing.
  • Valid driver's license.
