Job description

Job Title: Welder

Job Description

This role performs production welding on sub-assemblies and finished products using primarily GMAW (MIG) processes, working under close to minimal supervision. You will prepare, weld, and inspect components made from A36 to 4140 heat-treated steel in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions, while following detailed written and verbal instructions. The position also includes basic on-line testing and inspection activities, as well as cleaning and preparing units for subsequent operations, all while strictly adhering to safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Weld sub-assemblies and finished products using GMAW (MIG) welding processes in accordance with written and verbal instructions.
  • Perform welding on A36 to 4140 heat-treated steel in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions.
  • Carry out Air Arc Gouging operations on specified materials as required by job specifications.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate welding equipment and tooling to achieve quality welds and maintain production standards.
  • Perform on-line testing and inspection activities with minimal supervision to verify weld quality and conformance to specifications.
  • Clean and prepare welded units for the next operation in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assist in fitting and positioning components prior to welding to ensure proper alignment and fit-up.
  • Work with tooling and fixtures to support accurate, repeatable welding operations.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in MIG (GMAW) welding on carbon and heat-treated steels, including A36 to 4140 materials.
  • Ability to perform welding in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions.
  • Experience with fitting components prior to welding to ensure proper alignment and dimensional accuracy.
  • Knowledge of basic welding inspection and on-line testing methods to verify weld quality.
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions, including procedures and work instructions.
  • Understanding of and adherence to safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment with welding operations.
  • Capability to perform Air Arc Gouging on steel components as required.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing shop that includes welding, machining, assembly, packing, and shipping operations. The standard shift runs from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with flexibility needed to work additional hours as required; the operation typically runs between 5:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., providing opportunities for overtime when desired. Required personal protective equipment includes steel-toe footwear, safety glasses, and jeans as part of the regular dress code, along with any additional protective gear needed for specific tasks.
