What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary Google software engineer?

To thrive as a Temporary Google Software Engineer, you need a strong background in computer science fundamentals, proficiency in programming languages like Python, Java, or C++, and relevant experience or a degree in a technical field. Familiarity with Google's development tools, cloud platforms, and version control systems such as Git is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and effective communication skills are essential soft skills for this role. These competencies enable you to quickly contribute to complex projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and deliver high-quality software under tight deadlines.

Temporary Google Software Engineers are often assigned to established teams working on specific products or features. Job description

The Company

Cerbo · OptiMantra is a healthcare technology company built for the practices actively changing how medicine is delivered. Our platforms serve functional, integrative, direct primary care, concierge, med spa, and behavioral health practitioners who need software that keeps pace with how they work -- not the other way around.

Each platform is a purpose-built EHR and practice management solution. Cerbo is architected for clinical depth: deep configuration, protocol-specific workflows, and the kind of flexibility that holistic and functional medicine practices require. OptiMantra is structured for scale: multi-modality breadth, out-of-the-box readiness, and the operational infrastructure that growing practices rely on.

Together, our two platforms form a leading presence in this rapidly expanding market. Our practitioners are redefining what a patient experience can look like. We exist to give them the technology foundation to do exactly that -- at whatever size and pace they choose to grow.

What You’ll Do

As a Software Engineer for OptiMantra, you’ll play a key role in developing and maintaining scalable, cloud-based software solutions. You’ll work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality features and improvements to our platform. Primary responsibilities will be focused on building a back-end platform, with some front-end development.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain full-stack applications using Java and Spring.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code.
  • Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback.
  • Support application deployment and ongoing maintenance.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other developers, to ensure software solutions meet business requirements.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance.
  • Communicate with stakeholders, including management, customers, and other teams, to ensure software solutions meet their needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow under the mentorship of senior engineers.
  • Experience with tools such as Git, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience working with one or more cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and familiar with their services and APIs.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

AI Tool Competency

  • Demonstrated experience using AI coding assistants in a professional or project setting.
  • Ability to write clear, specific prompts that produce useful outputs.
  • Strong critical evaluation skills — able to identify subtle bugs, inefficiencies, or security issues in generated code.
  • Understanding of AI limitations, including hallucinations, outdated patterns, and context window constraints.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive compensation based on experience
  • Paid Time Off and company holidays
  • Comprehensive health, dental and vision benefits
  • Short-term and long-term disability Insurance
  • 401k plan with matching company contribution
  • Real ownership and impact in a fast-growing health tech company

Location: 100% Remote. This position requires candidates to be available to work during Eastern (ET) business hours.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
