Job description

Manager, Global Logistics

Allied Mineral Products is a leading manufacturer of monolithic refractories worldwide, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. We are currently seeking a Global Logistics leader to manage and optimize inbound, outbound and interplant transportation of goods across Allied's global footprint. This includes 15 manufacturing sites in eight countries serving customers in over 100 countries. Shipments span a broad range of methods including truckload, LTL, ocean container, break bulk barge, parcel, air freight, rail, intermodal.

Scope:

Must be able to work across all levels of the organization from plant associates to senior executives at all global locations.

Primary responsibility for all aspects of Logistics:

  • Determine best shipment methods
  • Selection, qualification and negotiation with suppliers
  • Scheduling, tracking and invoice accuracy for shipments
  • Total landed cost analysis, tracking and improvement
  • Warehouse selection, contracts and management
  • Compliance with all regulations including customs, ISF, HS codes, Hazmat, NFMC class, Defense transportation regulations
  • Identify and implement efficiencies that drive process improvement and scalability within the organization

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review Allied's freight and other logistics needs and develop strategies and action plans to achieve the best result for corporate Allied (Allied and its affiliates).
  • Develop innovative approaches to logistics within the context of Allied's corporate strategies, marketing/business plans, sales needs and materials sourcing needs. Contribute to strategy and competitive positioning through the application of logistics principals and the development of forward-thinking logistics initiatives
  • Track total logistics spend and drive continuous improvement to minimize cost at appropriate service levels
  • Monitor market conditions and implement actions to react accordingly
  • Learn and be aware of new regulations, policies, trade agreements and world events that impact Allied's corporate logistics strategies and day-to-day shipments.
  • Provide direct oversight, coaching, and performance management for one direct report (Logistics Coordinator), ensuring alignment with corporate logistics strategies and operational goals.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Purchasing or related discipline, or equivalent experience required.
  • Must have a minimum of 7 years of logistics experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience managing import and export logistics within a corporate or manufacturing environment.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Applications.
  • Prior experience with SAP or similar ERP system a plus
  • Experience with technology implementations and integrations, especially Transportation Management Systems, a plus
  • Must be self-motivated, a team player and have strong attention to detail.
