OVERVIEW The Director of Engineering & Security serves as a key member of the Hotel Leadership Team. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this role provides leadership and strategic direction to ensure Rosewood Washington, D.C. delivers a safe, seamless, and exceptional experience for guests and associates alike. Responsible for all engineering, maintenance, security, life safety, sustainability, and capital improvement initiatives, this position oversees building systems, asset preservation, regulatory compliance, risk management, and security programs while driving operational excellence and financial performance. The Director of Engineering & Security is a hands-on leader who balances long-term strategic vision with day-to-day execution, fostering a culture of accountability and service excellence while upholding Rosewood's commitment to Forbes Five-Star standards, environmental responsibility, and Relationship Hospitality. SALARY: $120,000 - $135,000 This position is eligible for bonus pay. SCHEDULE: Flexible availability is required, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call response as necessary to support hotel operations. RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership & Operations * Provide visionary leadership to the Engineering and Security teams, promoting Rosewood's culture, values, and standards of excellence. * Direct all aspects of engineering operations, including maintenance, repair, and preventative care of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, mechanical, structural, and life safety systems. * Oversee hotel security operations, protecting guests, associates, visitors, and assets through effective risk management, emergency preparedness, and incident response programs. * Supervise, train, develop, and mentor Engineering and Security associates, supporting recruitment, succession planning, engagement, and performance management. * Represent Engineering and Security in management meetings and cross-functional initiatives, fostering collaboration throughout the property. Asset Protection & Maintenance * Ensure all building systems and critical infrastructure operate at optimal performance with minimal disruption to guests and operations. * Develop, implement, and continuously enhance preventative and predictive maintenance programs for guestrooms, public areas, back-of-house facilities, and hotel equipment. * Maintain the structural integrity and overall condition of the property through proactive inspections and maintenance planning. * Lead emergency response efforts, crisis management procedures, fire life safety programs, and business continuity planning. * Ensure readiness for Operational Management Reviews (OMR) and timely completion of corrective action plans. Capital Projects & Financial Management * Lead capital projects, renovations, and property improvement initiatives while maintaining design integrity and operational excellence. * Collaborate with ownership, consultants, contractors, and vendors to deliver projects on time and within budget. * Prepare and manage departmental operating and capital budgets, ensuring sound financial stewardship and cost control. * Analyze expenditures, identify opportunities for efficiencies, and optimize resource allocation without compromising quality or guest satisfaction. * Demonstrate strong business acumen when evaluating building improvements, infrastructure investments, and asset replacement plans. Safety, Compliance & Security * Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA requirements, fire and life safety codes, environmental regulations, and hotel policies. * Maintain comprehensive security protocols, investigations, access control systems, surveillance systems, and emergency preparedness programs. * Oversee contractor safety standards and regulatory compliance across all engineering and construction activities. * Protect confidential hotel, guest, and associate information at all times. * Ensure all licenses, permits, inspections, certifications, and regulatory requirements remain current and compliant. Sustainability & Environmental Stewardship * Champion Rosewood Impacts and other sustainability initiatives focused on energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and carbon footprint mitigation. * Drive environmental best practices while maintaining the highest levels of guest comfort and operational performance. * Monitor utility consumption, establish conservation goals, and implement sustainable engineering solutions that support long-term business objectives. * The list of responsibilities is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by this position.
