PRIMARY SCOPE

The Safety Training & Field Support Specialist supports Fisher Industries' heavy civil construction, aggregate, mining, crushing, asphalt, concrete, trucking, marine, and related field operations by providing safety training, employee development, regulatory compliance support, and temporary field safety coverage throughout the organization.

This position serves as a traveling safety professional responsible for delivering classroom instruction, hands-on practical training, field coaching, operator evaluations, and safety leadership support. The role assists locations experiencing staffing shortages, project surges, employee absences, startup operations, onboarding activities, or specialized training needs.

Unlike a Site Safety Specialist assigned to one location, this position regularly travels to multiple projects, facilities, mines, plants, terminals, shops, and operational teams. Frequent overnight travel and schedule flexibility are required based on operational, project, and training needs.

The ideal candidate is an experienced safety trainer with a strong background in field operations, equipment operation, regulatory compliance, and adult learning. The successful candidate must be comfortable presenting to groups, coaching employees, conducting practical training, evaluating operator competency, maintaining training records, and working independently while traveling.

PRIMARY DUTIES

· Travel to Fisher Industries locations to conduct scheduled and needs-based safety training and provide field support.

· Conduct New Hire Orientation, site-specific orientation, onboarding, refresher training, and safety meetings.

· Deliver classroom and hands-on training for powered industrial trucks and mobile elevating work platforms, including forklifts, telehandlers, boom lifts, scissor lifts, and other man lifts or aerial lifts used by Fisher operations.

· Conduct operator practical evaluations, document demonstrated competency, and issue or coordinate required qualification records in accordance with company procedures and applicable requirements.

· Provide training on fall protection, lockout/tagout, excavation, confined space, hazard communication, PPE, mobile equipment, spotter practices, emergency response, and other assigned safety topics.

· Develop, update, standardize, and maintain training presentations, lesson plans, evaluations, rosters, qualification documents, and field training materials.

· Maintain accurate training records and coordinate documentation within applicable company training, safety, and employee record systems.

· Verify employee certifications, licenses, task training, equipment qualifications, and refresher training requirements.

· Provide temporary field safety coverage during vacancies, employee leave, project surges, startup operations, or special assignments.

· Assist Regional Safety Managers, Site Safety Specialists, SSHOs, Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and operational leadership with safety and training needs.

· Conduct inspections, audits, observations, hazard assessments, and compliance evaluations; document findings and follow up on corrective actions.

· Lead or support Job Hazard Analyses, Job Safety Analyses, pre-task planning, and other risk assessments.

· Support compliance with applicable OSHA, MSHA, EM 385-1-1, DOT, client, site-specific, and company requirements based on the operation or project assignment.

· Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, lessons learned, and related employee retraining.

· Support the implementation of site-specific safety plans, mine safety programs, emergency action plans, hazard communication programs, and company safety initiatives.

· Coach and mentor employees, supervisors, foremen, Site Safety Specialists, and SSHOs on hazard recognition, safe work practices, and training delivery.

· Promote Fisher's Stop Work Obligation, employee hazard reporting, and a positive, accountable safety culture.

· Support emergency preparedness, drills, severe weather readiness, first aid response, fire prevention, evacuation planning, and spill response coordination as assigned.

· Compile and communicate training metrics, overdue or upcoming qualification needs, safety observations, and compliance information.

· Comply with all federal, state, local, customer, and company policies, procedures, and safety standards.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Minimum of 3 years of experience conducting classroom and hands-on safety or equipment training.

· Demonstrated experience operating, training, or evaluating forklifts, telehandlers, boom lifts, scissor lifts, man lifts, aerial lifts, or similar equipment.

· Safety experience in heavy civil construction, mining, aggregate, asphalt, concrete, trucking, industrial, or related field operations.

· Working knowledge of applicable OSHA 1910, OSHA 1926, MSHA Part 46 or Part 48, DOT, EM 385-1-1, company, and site-specific requirements relevant to assigned work.

· Strong presentation, facilitation, coaching, documentation, and communication skills.

· Ability to deliver training to small and large groups in both classroom and active field environments.

· Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple locations and training needs, and adapt to changing operational schedules.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to use company safety, training, and reporting systems.

· Valid driver's license and an acceptable MVR in accordance with Fisher's Company Vehicle Program policy.

· Must be willing and able to travel extensively to different Fisher locations, including frequent overnight travel, extended assignments, and schedule changes based on business needs.

· Ability to work early mornings, nights, weekends, or extended shifts when required by project or training schedules.

· Ability to wear required PPE, including fall protection and respiratory protection when required.

· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and conduct hands-on demonstrations and field evaluations.

· Ability to work in active construction, mining, plant, shop, marine, and industrial environments and in adverse weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and dust.

· Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and meet company hiring requirements.

POSITION PERKS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

· Train-the-Trainer certification is highly recommended.

· Documented instructor or evaluator credentials for powered industrial trucks and mobile elevating work platforms are strongly preferred.

· OSHA 30-hour Construction certification; OSHA 500 or OSHA 510 preferred.

· MSHA approved instructor credentials or experience delivering Part 46 or Part 48 training preferred.

· First Aid/CPR/AED instructor certification preferred.

· EM 385-1-1 SSHO qualifications preferred for assignments where EM 385-1-1 applies.

· CHST, OHST, ASP, CSP, SMS, NCCER instructor certification, or equivalent professional credentials preferred.

· Experience developing adult-learning materials, conducting practical evaluations, and maintaining qualification records preferred.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS

· Training is the primary function of this role. Field safety support and temporary coverage are additional responsibilities based on company needs.
