Job description
Overall Responsibilities of an Operations Manager- Nuclear (2nd Shift):
Reporting to the Director of Operations for Early Nuclear Builds and Steel, this Operations Manager will be responsible for managing the execution of all nuclear work from early component arrival through Reactor Compartment End Load. The candidate must manage the performance of multiple nuclear trades departments to achieve safety, quality, cost and schedule initiatives. Candidates must be able to effectively work with Department Resource managers to ensure early nuclear work milestones are achieved on schedule to support follow on key events. Candidate shall have effective problem-solving skills and must be able to promote a positive team environment and be highly motivated with strong interpersonal skills. Candidate must be fully cognizant of OSHA requirements relating to specific trades and will be held accountable for enforcement of standards and shipyard safety practices. Must be able to interpret and implement all job requirements utilizing EB systems and procedures.
Key Responsibilities of an Operations Manager- Nuclear (2nd Shift):
Product/Services:
- Manage work order attainment and cost performance for nuclear trade departments
- Work with Nuclear Ships Management and Ships Management to execute on Critical and Controlling paths
- Track and trend performance issues and provide feedback to home trade departments
- Engage with support organizations (such as temporary services and nuclear quality control inspection) to optimize efficient work practices
- Provide input to availability of production and non-production material; consult with material planners and facilities
- Work with engineering organizations to ensure adequate and efficient resolution for technical dispositions are provided to support trades
- Interface with local regulatory organizations; Reactor Plant Contractors Office (RPCO) and Naval Reactors Representatives Office (NRRO)
- Achieve quality objectives; apply corrective actions to address deficiencies including utilizing the MDD-00664 process
Process:
- Enforce/comply with safety and environmental programs; monitor trends and ensure compliance; consult with responsible departments
- Plan for risk identification and responsive mitigation strategies
- Perform formal surveillances to support Operations and CONOPS surveillance programs
- Participate in safe-site audits, hazard hunts, and safety tours
People:
- Coach and mentor General Foreman and Supervisors
- Improve workforce performance and productivity; establish and communicate expectations; positively motivate the workforce
- Monitor and improve workplace climate; reinforce desired workforce values behaviors; maintain morale
- Manage individual performance of General Foremen and Operations Supervisors; develop their technical and professional leadership skills
- Collaborate with HR to establish pay adjustments and take appropriate disciplinary actions as needed

Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 8+ years of trades or shipbuilding experience
- 4+ years of Trades Supervisory/Management experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance through the Department of Defense
- Must be able to work on any shift as business needs dictate
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science Degree is preferred
- Experience supervising nuclear trades, nuclear engineering or nuclear test organizations
- Experience working with the Electric Boat MDD-00664 process
- Electric Boat developmental program(s) (PDG/FLG/BLG) graduate
- Proficiency with blueprints, MRP, EWP, SPARS, ATIS, Artemis, and EVM is desired
- Computer skills including MS Office and Project
- Relevant military leadership experience desired
- Strong written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required
- High attention to detail and ability to demonstrate previous experience in performing at a high-quality level
- Applicant must be a self-motivator with a strong awareness of procedural compliance
- Ability to motivate peers and subordinates to achieve daily goals
- Comfortable with public speaking including executives and the customer
