What is a temporary event manager?

Temporary Event Managers are professionals hired on a short-term or contract basis to plan, coordinate, and oversee events such as conferences, festivals, corporate functions, or weddings. They are responsible for managing event logistics, vendors, budgets, and ensuring the event runs smoothly. These roles often require flexibility, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work under pressure, as events usually have strict deadlines and unique challenges. Temporary Event Managers may work independently or as part of a larger team, depending on the size and complexity of the event.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary event manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Event Manager, you need strong organizational abilities, problem-solving skills, and experience in event planning, often supported by a relevant degree or certification in event management. Familiarity with event management software, budgeting tools, and registration platforms is typically required. Excellent communication, adaptability, and leadership are standout soft skills for coordinating teams and handling unexpected challenges. These skills ensure seamless event execution, client satisfaction, and the ability to respond effectively in fast-paced, dynamic environments.

What are some common challenges faced by temporary event managers, and how can they be addressed?

Temporary Event Managers often face challenges such as quickly adapting to new teams, managing tight deadlines, and coordinating logistics in unfamiliar venues. To overcome these challenges, it's important to be highly organized, maintain open communication with all stakeholders, and remain flexible in problem-solving. Building strong relationships with vendors and on-site staff early on can also help ensure smoother event execution and address issues proactively.

Are temporary event managers in high demand?

Temporary event managers are in moderate demand, especially during peak seasons and for large-scale events such as conferences, festivals, and corporate gatherings. Employers seek candidates with strong organizational skills, experience in event planning, and the ability to work flexible hours, making these roles competitive but available for qualified professionals.

How to become a temporary event manager with no experience?

To become a temporary event manager with no experience, start by gaining basic organizational and communication skills through volunteering or assisting with small events. Consider obtaining relevant certifications such as event planning or hospitality courses, and seek entry-level roles or internships to build practical experience in event coordination and management. Job description

\

\This role offers significant, unlimited commission earning potential.\\

\Summary\ \

As a SPIN Event Sales Manager, you not only sell the experience, you seek to improve upon itโ€”consistently. Whatโ€™s that mean? You do more than just turn inquiries into booked events (although that will be critical to your success). You work your phone, email and social network aggressively to close inquiries. You help refine and define the SPiN experience by conducting site visits, entertaining potential clients, and coordinating with our Operations Team to ensure our events are executed with world-class precision. Youโ€™ll be more than a salespersonโ€”youโ€™ll be an experience-maker! Think youโ€™re up for it? If so, read onโ€ฆ\

\Essential Functions\ \

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.\

\
    \
  • Respond to all inquiries, transforming those inquiries into booked events (this oneโ€™s a given, but weโ€™re mentioning it anywayโ€”itโ€™s that important).\
  • \
  • Bring the experience to life. How? By speaking with ease and authority on the features and benefits of SPiNโ€™s unique venue features and event packages.\
  • \
  • Monthly Sales Team Goalsโ€”in short, you meet them. (Better yetโ€”you exceed themโ€ฆ wildly.) Take direction well and know what it means both to lead and to be a solid supporting cast member for our Director of Sales (to whom youโ€™ll report along with the General Manager).\
  • \
  • Speaking of, our Director of Salesโ€”youโ€™ll be ready/willing/able to assist him/her when it comes to preparing for trade shows, sales missions, and promotional events.\
  • \
  • Youโ€™re hungry and โ€œhandsโ€‘onโ€โ€”and with the Director of Sales, you seek out and identify opportunities for proactive account management.\
  • \
  • You want to be more than a โ€œcloserโ€โ€”and welcome the chance to work with your clients to plan, coordinate, and ensure that your booked events are worldโ€‘class experiences!\
  • \
  • You wonโ€™t stop when the partyโ€™s over; instead, you cultivate client relationships both while planning and well after (because retention business can be powerfully lucrative).\
  • \
\Qualifications\ \
    \
  • Experienceโ€”at least \3 years \in an Event Sales role\
  • \
  • A bachelorโ€™s degree (preferably in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Hospitality) Excellent verbal and written communication skills (to sell the experience, you have to be able to communicate itโ€”effectively)\
  • \
  • An ability to own and resolve problems (troubleโ€‘shootersโ€”weโ€™re looking for you) โ€œItโ€™s in the detailsโ€โ€”for you, itโ€™s not just a phrase, itโ€™s a way of being\
  • \
  • Hospitality experienceโ€”great if you have it (not a dealโ€‘breaker if you donโ€™t)\
  • \
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook and work processing applications.\
  • \
  • Experience in working with booking software platforms such as Seven Rooms and Tripleseat - a BONUS but not required\
  • \
