Job Description
BASIC FUNCTION:
• Develop and deliver instructional lectures for Geology courses up to 10 hours/week
• Organize and teach all levels of Geology classes
• Use appropriate teaching methods to facilitate student learning;
• Teach day, evening, and/or weekend teaching assignments, which may include distance learning (interactive television, online) and accelerated courses;
• Assess Student Learning Outcomes every semester;
• Participate in department, division, and college-wide initiatives and committees if desired
Essential Duties Summary
REQUIRED DUTIES:
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Required Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate, by the final filing date, must possess the minimum qualifications stated below:
• Master's in geology OR
• Bachelor's in geology AND
• Master's in geology, history, meteorology, or oceanography
• OR the equivalent
• OR Interdisciplinary Studies.
Master's in the interdisciplinary area
OR
master's in one of the disciplines included in the interdisciplinary area and upper division or graduate course work in at least one other constituent discipline.
(NOTE: The Interdisciplinary Studies discipline is provided to allow for those cases where it is locally determined that a
course must be taught by someone with qualifications that exceed a single discipline. The constituent disciplines can include any disciplines found in the Master's List.)
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
EXPERIENCE:
Preference may be given to candidates with life or teaching which would demonstrate the clear ability to teach Physical Sciences, or Geography, or Geology to community college students.
