Job description

Temporary Services Electrician (Shipyard)

The Temporary Services Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of temporary electrical power systems aboard vessels and throughout shipyard facilities. This role supports critical shipboard operations by ensuring safe and reliable temporary electrical services in accordance with NAVSEA, OSHA, and shipyard requirements. Assignments are project-based and may continue based on performance and contract demand.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and remove temporary electrical power systems, cabling, panels, generators, and related equipment aboard vessels and on piers
  • Troubleshoot, test, and repair temporary service electrical systems using volt-ohm meters, meggers, amp meters, and other diagnostic equipment
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and work packages to complete installations and repairs
  • Perform circuit analysis, fault identification, and corrective actions on temporary electrical systems
  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of temporary generators, power modules, and distribution systems
  • Ensure temporary electrical services comply with NAVSEA Standard Items, shipyard requirements, and project specifications
  • Support testing, inspections, and condition reporting related to temporary service installations
  • Train and assist junior electricians as required based on experience level

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of shipyard, marine, industrial, or commercial electrical experience
  • Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting temporary electrical service systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
  • Knowledge of electrical safety practices, OSHA standards, and marine electrical work environments
  • Experience using electrical testing and diagnostic equipment
  • Ability to work aboard vessels, in tanks, voids, cofferdams, and elevated locations
  • Current WAF training or ability to obtain required shipyard certifications
  • Ability to obtain or maintain Rapid Gate, DBIDS, or other site access credentials as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Navy vessel repair or NAVSEA projects
  • Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items 009-08, 009-28, and 009-74
  • OSHA 10 Maritime or OSHA 30 certification
  • Experience with temporary service generators and power distribution systems
  • Experience leading or training junior electricians

Additional Information

Work is performed aboard vessels, in dry docks, and in industrial shipyard environments supporting Navy and commercial repair operations. Duties may involve confined or elevated spaces and active production areas. Exposure to industrial noise and environmental conditions is expected. PPE is required in accordance with site safety policies, and respiratory protection may be required based on task or location. Work schedules may include overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts based on production needs. Reliable transportation is required to report to assigned shipyard or project locations.
