Material HandlerJob Description
The Material Handler safely operates a sit-down forklift to move materials, supports warehouse operations, and serves as a team lead within the warehouse by coordinating daily activities without direct management responsibilities. This role focuses on loading and unloading trailers, using RF scanners and internal shipping systems, and inspecting products to ensure accuracy and quality in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate a sit-down forklift safely and efficiently to move materials throughout the warehouse.
- Load and unload products from trailers in the warehouse, ensuring accurate placement and secure handling.
- Utilize an RF scan gun to scan, track, and verify inventory and shipments.
- Use the internal shipping system as needed to process orders, shipments, and documentation.
- Inspect inbound and outbound products to verify quality, accuracy, and compliance with requirements.
- Assist machine operators with materials, including staging, replenishing, and removing materials as needed.
- Act as a team lead within the warehouse by coordinating daily tasks, supporting team members, and promoting safe and efficient workflows, without direct supervisory or disciplinary responsibilities.
- Support general warehouse activities such as assembly, production support, shipping and receiving, and general labor tasks.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines and adhere to all safety and quality procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, contributing to the overall cleanliness of the facility.
- Communicate effectively with warehouse staff, operators, and other departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Participate in initial and ongoing training, including one week of first-shift training, to stay current on procedures and safety standards.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 6 months of manufacturing or production experience.
- At least 1 year of forklift experience, specifically with sit-down forklifts.
- Experience in material handling within a warehouse or production environment.
- Ability to operate an RF scan gun or RF scanner for inventory and shipping tasks.
- Ability to perform general labor tasks in a warehouse setting.
- Strong attention to detail for inspecting inbound and outbound products.
- Ability to follow GMP guidelines and safety procedures.
- Capability to act as a team lead, coordinating tasks and supporting coworkers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in assembly and production support in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with internal shipping systems or warehouse management systems.
- Comfort working in a structured, process-driven environment with GMP requirements.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with operators and warehouse staff.
- Ability to adapt to different shifts, including training on first shift for one week.

Work Environment
This role is based in a manufacturing facility that produces bottles and caps for products such as shampoo, conditioner, and mouthwash. The warehouse and production areas are very clean and temperature controlled, providing a comfortable and organized work setting. Employees follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines and receive guidance and documentation on these standards. The dress code requires steel-toed boots, long pants such as jeans or khakis, and a t-shirt; ear plugs, hair nets, and similar protective items are provided as needed.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Liberty, IA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.50/hr.
