Job description

The American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to champion the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of chest diseases through education, communication and research. CHEST is based in Glenview, IL.


We are currently seeking an Independent Contractor Temporary Part-Time Editorial Coordinator. The end date of this contract is set for August 1, 2027.


Position Purpose: The Independent Contractor Temporary Part-Time Editorial Coordinator is responsible for coordinating editorial, content development, and operational activities that support educational and digital learning products.


Work Schedule: The schedule for this position is project-based and may not exceed 25 hours per week, through December 2026. Starting in January of 2027, the expected work hours will be as-needed/ad-hoc.


Responsibilities:

  • Copyediting and proofreading of both digital and print content
  • Maintain online educational content in the SEEK site/LMS, including updates, testing, and quality assurance
  • Coordinate with faculty and SME’s to gather appropriate information, schedule meetings, assign tasks, and oversee writing and editing process
  • Coordinate peer review process with oversight from the director
  • Coordinate with the marketing team on marketing materials for SEEK
  • Prepare materials for meetings with faculty
  • Coordinate with other internal stakeholders, such as video editors, designers, administrators, and other content managers
  • Complete operational paperwork related to digital learning products with supervision and review from the director
  • Support preparations for the lineup for the Curriculum Pathways
  • Monthly research on copyright violations
  • Manage project deadlines and deliverables
  • Provide status updates to the director


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in editorial coordination or content management
  • Editing/proofreading experience
  • Strong writing skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized and detail oriented


The pay for this position is $30 per hour. CHEST considers factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, key skills, and market and organizational considerations when setting the hourly pay for our temporary independent contractor positions.
