ABOUT THE POSITION The contingent/temporary Occupational Therapist (OT) plans, evaluates and provides the full range of professional services in functional and supportive occupational therapy for physically handicapped children and young adults from birth to 21 years of age. The OT evaluates clients, provides family and caregiver education, and develops and implements treatment plans which include therapeutic activities to promote independence in self-care, play, and motor skills.

The OT prepares required reports and home programs and maintains medical records to provide ongoing assessment and documentation of client's response to treatment in accordance with State standards. The OT collaborates with the California Children's Services (CCS) rehabilitation team, families, and community partners to provide comprehensive client care. The OT is familiar with splinting, orthotics, and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and is active in the assessment, design, fabrication and/or application of appropriate splinting, orthotics and DME.

The OT may provide lead worker direction to a Therapy Aide. The OT joins the seasoned pediatric therapy staff at Marindale Medical Therapy Unit (MMTU) located in the beautiful foothills of San Rafael, California. This Unit is in the Public Health Division of the Health and Human Services Department at the County of Marin.

There is currently one (1) full time contingent/temporary OT position available. * This position is subject to the program's annual August closure, during which the office is closed. No hours will be assigned during this period, and as a temporary employee, the incumbent will not receive pay for the duration of the closure.

* HIGHLY DESIRABLE Bilingual skills in Spanish and English are highly desirable. The successful candidate must possess bilingual skills and must demonstrate proficiency in both Spanish and English prior to appointment. A bilingual proficiency exam will be administered to ensure the candidates possess the appropriate skill level to meet the requirements.

ABOUT YOU OUR HIGHLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATE Our highly qualified candidate has strong experience as an Occupational Therapist working with neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions in the pediatric population. The highly qualified candidate possesses excellent treatment skills and advanced training or certification in such areas as NDT, CHT, Feeding and Swallowing, RESNA-ATP or any Board Certifications. The highly qualified candidate has strong critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze occupational therapy treatment plans, identify problems, and adapt the treatment plans to incorporate innovative and creative solutions.

The highly qualified candidate is both an independent thinker and works well on a team. They have strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal. They work well in collaboration with the therapy staff, families, and our community partners.

The highly qualified candidate has the ability to listen attentively and interact well with those they encounter while performing their work. In addition, they have experience working with individuals from diverse or physically challenging backgrounds within the program and the community. Our highly qualified candidate demonstrates sensitivity and empathy for the feelings and perspectives of others.

QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Treatments directed toward facilitating normal postures and movements, inhibiting abnormal reflexes, assisting coordination of movements, and promoting self-care activities. The adaptation of various activities including, play, games, recreation, and the creative arts as therapeutic exercises. Normal child development, sensory-integration techniques, and neurodevelopmental sequencing.

Development, design, and construction of special equipment. Skeletal anatomy, kinesiology, and the objectives of occupational therapy treatment. Physical and psychological rehabilitation and problems of disabled patients and their effects on the Ability to: Explain and interpret objectives and methods to patients, parents and other support systems with tact and understanding.

Adapt various functions to the therapeutic requirements of patients. Cooperate with other professional staff to secure carry- over in the treatment and training of patients. Prepare accurate, concise case records.

Follow oral and written directions in a timely manner. Conduct therapy case management with independence. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of people and organizations encountered while performing work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed below. Typically, equivalent to, graduation from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy and possession of the following knowledge and abilities. Certificates and Licenses: Possession of a valid certificate of registration as an Occupational Therapist issued by the California State Board of Occupational Therapy, or the ability to obtain such registration within six (6) months of hiring.
