What is a temporary data extraction job?

Temporary Data Extraction jobs involve short-term assignments where individuals are responsible for collecting, retrieving, and organizing data from various sources, such as documents, databases, or websites. These roles are typically project-based and may require the use of specialized software or tools to extract data efficiently and accurately. Temporary data extraction positions are common in industries undergoing digital transformation, data migration, or large-scale information updates. Workers in these roles need strong attention to detail and may work independently or as part of a team. Since these jobs are temporary, assignments can range from a few days to several months, depending on the project's scope.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary data extraction specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Data Extraction Specialist, you need strong attention to detail, data entry accuracy, and familiarity with spreadsheets or databases, typically supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Excel, data extraction software, and sometimes OCR systems is usually required. Analytical thinking, time management, and reliability are crucial soft skills for managing repetitive tasks and meeting deadlines. These competencies ensure accurate data collection, minimize errors, and help maintain workflow efficiency during short-term projects.

What are the typical challenges faced in a temporary data extraction role, and how can they be managed?

Temporary Data Extraction professionals often encounter challenges such as inconsistencies in source data, tight deadlines, and adapting quickly to new tools or procedures. It's important to pay close attention to detail and communicate regularly with team members or supervisors to clarify requirements and resolve ambiguities. Familiarizing yourself with the data extraction software and maintaining organized records can help manage workload efficiently. Additionally, being proactive about asking questions when encountering unclear data can prevent errors and streamline the extraction process.

Job description

Senior Product Engineer – AI / Data

New York (Flatiron/NoMad) | $170,000–$215,000 + 0.1–0.3% equity | 4 days onsite

The opportunity

Launchpad are working with an exciting, early-stage technology business building AI-powered infrastructure for the insurance industry. The business is solving a genuinely difficult problem: insurance data is fragmented, inconsistent and notoriously difficult to access. Its platform makes it possible for businesses to securely access, understand and process insurance data through a universal API — replacing slow, manual processes with technology.

The platform is already trusted by major organisations including Hertz, Avis, Audi, Rocket Mortgage, Sixt and Experian, with revenue growing 5x this year. Following a $17.5m Series A, the business is expanding its engineering team in New York and is looking for two Senior Product Engineers. This is a high-ownership role for someone who wants to work on complex technical problems, build new systems from scratch and have a genuine influence on product and engineering decisions.

What you'll be working on

You'll work across backend engineering, data infrastructure and applied AI, including:

  • Building evaluation systems for insurance data extractors and transformers
  • Designing and orchestrating self-healing AI agents that improve their performance over time
  • Building systems that bring context and intelligence to highly variable insurance data
  • Designing scalable data pipelines and orchestration across multiple data sources
  • Working with APIs, distributed systems, data extraction, validation and transformation
  • Making architectural and technical design decisions across the product
  • Taking projects from 0→1 and owning them through to production
  • Helping mentor more junior engineers as the team continues to grow

What they're looking for

You don't need to tick every box, but you'll ideally have:

  • 3+ years' experience building production software in data-rich environments
  • Strong backend engineering experience, alongside full-stack capability
  • Experience building complex products involving data pipelines, APIs or data aggregation
  • Experience with distributed systems, data extraction, validation or transformation
  • Strong Python and/or TypeScript experience
  • Experience working with APIs and production-scale data systems
  • Exposure to Applied AI, LLMs, agentic workflows, AI orchestration, evals or guardrails
  • Experience working in a startup or similarly high-ownership environment

The person

This role will suit an engineer who enjoys figuring things out rather than waiting to be told what to do.

You'll be comfortable taking an ambiguous problem, breaking it down, making sensible technical decisions and owning the outcome.

You'll enjoy:

  • High levels of autonomy
  • Ambiguous and technically challenging problems
  • Building new products and systems from scratch
  • Working closely with a small, highly capable engineering team
  • Having a direct impact on product and architecture

Experience within fintech, data aggregation, healthtech or other data-intensive products would be particularly relevant.

Tech Stack

Python | TypeScript | APIs | AI/ML | LLMs | Agentic Workflows | Data Pipelines | AWS

Why join?

  • $17.5m Series A backed by leading venture investors and angels
  • Revenue has grown 5x this year
  • Mid 7-figure ARR with 160%+ Net Dollar Retention and clear product-market fit
  • Product already used by major Fortune 500 businesses including Rocket Mortgage, Hertz, Avis, Sixt and Experian
  • Opportunity to solve a genuinely difficult and valuable data problem
  • Significant exposure to applied AI and agentic systems
  • Small engineering team where individual contribution has real impact
  • $170k–$215k base salary
  • 0.1–0.3% equity
  • Full benefits
  • Unlimited PTO
