Temporary Help - Local Government

Voter Registration and Elections


The Department of Voter Registration and Elections is seeking temporary staff support with processing registration applications for the 2026 election season. This is a temporary, paid position.

Position is non-exempt, paying $15.00 per hour.


Essential Functions:

  • Supports customer service program and responds to public concerns as necessary: screens visitors, callers, U.S. mail and email, independently answering inquiries when possible, or directing to appropriate staff when necessary, and facilitating staff responses.
  • Process data entry of voter registration applications through VERIS system.
  • Supports team by performing tasks related to organization and strong communication.
  • Establishes and maintains files. Files documents and other materials.
  • May coordinate activities of office and provide back-up for administrative staff.

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school
  • At least three years of extensive, increasingly responsible experience in administrative support (including computers, bookkeeping, and accounting, and considerable experience involving the maintenance of complex financial statistical records); and
  • Considerable experience using personal computers.

Preferred Qualifications/Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid appropriate driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia preferred.

Physical and Mental Requirements: 

  • Some contacts are made with individuals from other internal units or outside organizations or the general public for purposes of exchanging information which may require some judgment or interpretation.
  • Communication is usually cooperative in nature with infrequent conflicts resolved by higher authority.
  • Conducts work in a sitting position; however, job requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and light lifting.
  • Requires frequent operation of a variety of office machines.
