Job description

Laboratory/Technical Assistant

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a temporary Laboratory/Technical Assistant in the Urban Entomology Lab of the Department of Entomology. Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Conducts DNA extraction, PCR, and detection of pathogens associated with rodents or rodent ectoparasites.
  • Assists in field or laboratory research activities including application of treatments for pest control, data collection, and data analysis.
  • Guides undergraduate students in research projects.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

FLSA - Nonexempt

Salary Details - $25 - $30 per hour

Terms of Appointment - Temporary Staff Appointment - Hourly

Minimum Education and Experience - Bachelor's degree in Entomology or a related scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Excellent organizational, interpersonal skills, and computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAS.

Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree in Entomology. Experience in entomological research and skills in molecular biology.
