Primary Purpose

As an ELA Teacher at Options, you will be responsible for delivering effective, high-quality instruction that brings both rigor and relevance to the English Language Arts content area, producing measurable results in student achievement.

Additionally, Options’ teachers serve a vital role beyond traditional instruction: you will be assigned a small group of students to mentor. In this role, you will develop and monitor Individualized Service Plans (ISPs), build strong relationships, advocate for unique student interventions, and do "whatever it takes" to help students learn and succeed.

Major Responsibilities & DutiesInstruction & Academic Alignment

• Deliver Standards-Based Instruction: Teach ELA content that ensures academic growth for all students in the assigned grade levels.
• Curriculum Development: Develop goal-oriented daily and unit lesson plans, as well as a comprehensive scope and sequence aligned with the curriculum.
• Data-Driven Differentiation: Regularly assess student mastery of key skills and concepts, using that data to tailor and differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
• Substitute Planning: Carefully plan for substitute teachers to ensure seamless instructional continuity when unable to attend school.

Student Mentorship & Culture

• Holistic Mentorship: Act as a primary mentor for an assigned small group of students, actively tracking and developing their Individualized Service Plans (ISPs).
• Relationship Building: Develop positive, appropriate relationships with students and explicitly recognize their growth through positive calls home, progress notes, and updates.
• Behavioral Management: Consistently implement school-wide student management policies within the classroom and across the school campus.

Communication & Professionalism

• Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding academic progress, serving as their primary point of contact.
• School Events: Remain available for Open Houses, Parent-Teacher conferences, and other family-centered school events.
• Collaboration: Exercise open, respectful, and professional communication with families, co-workers, supervisors, and administrative staff.
• Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate, thorough records of student achievement and behavioral performance, completing progress reports and report cards promptly.
• School Community: Actively participate in staff meetings to support smooth school operations, contribute to a culture of excellence, and assist with organizational recruitment activities.
• Professional Growth: Continuous development through participation in classes, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
• Environment: Maintain a neat, clean, and organized classroom environment.

Job Qualifications & Requirements

• Licensure: Must hold a valid Indiana Teaching License in English for grades 9–12, or be explicitly eligible to apply for Indiana licensing.
• Experience (Preferred) Proven instructional success with a documented history of working effectively with adolescent students.
• Advanced Capabilities (Preferred)Ability and eligibility to teach dual credit courses.
