Job description

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of an established manufacturing organization. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, cost analysis, internal controls, accounting operations, and financial systems.


The ideal candidate has a strong manufacturing accounting background and enjoys using financial data to identify operational opportunities, understand root causes, and partner with leadership to improve business performance.


This role will oversee core accounting functions while working closely with external accounting and tax partners and supporting financial operations for both domestic and international entities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the company's day-to-day accounting and financial reporting activities.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial information and supporting schedules.
  • Coordinate financial information and documentation provided to the company's outside accounting firm for GAAP financial statements and tax preparation.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll, and related accounting processes.
  • Manage the general ledger, account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and financial close processes.
  • Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and management reporting.
  • Analyze financial statements, expenses, margins, cash flow, and cost trends to identify opportunities for improved financial and operational performance.
  • Create financial reports and analyses to support root-cause analysis and business decision-making.
  • Partner with department leaders to evaluate financial results, operating performance, budgets, and business initiatives.
  • Develop, document, and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with GAAP and applicable accounting standards.
  • Support compliance with applicable local, state, and federal financial reporting requirements.
  • Monitor company assets and assist with financial controls related to inventory, capital expenditures, and other company resources.
  • Support tax planning and provide financial information to outside tax and accounting professionals.
  • Oversee financial and budgeting processes associated with the company's international operations, including operations in Wales, United Kingdom.
  • Assist with the financial administration and evaluation of company insurance programs, including medical, property, and business insurance.
  • Evaluate and improve accounting processes, workflows, reporting tools, and financial systems.
  • Support improvements and automation within the company's ERP and accounting systems.
  • Take a lead role in implementing technology and AI-supported processes for invoice processing, ACH/check payments, cash posting, and other accounting workflows.
  • Maintain accurate financial and management information systems.
  • Support special projects and other accounting or financial responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including experience in a senior accounting leadership or Controller-level role.
  • Strong manufacturing accounting experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and cost control.
  • Experience overseeing general ledger, month-end close, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and payroll functions.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Experience analyzing financial and operational data and translating findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Experience working with ERP/MRP and automated financial reporting systems.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and with company leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CMA certification.
  • Sage X3 ERP/MRP experience.
  • Cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting international or multi-entity financial operations.
  • Experience implementing accounting automation, AI tools, or process improvements.
  • Powersports, automotive, motorcycle, or related manufacturing industry experience.
  • Knowledge of Spanish, German, French, Japanese, or other languages is a plus.
