Armed Security Officer / Protection Officer (PPO) – Hillsborough County Contract

Location: Tampa, FL (Hillsborough County Judicial & Government Buildings)

Employment Type: Full-Time & Part-Time Opportunities Available

Pay Rate: Competitive / Paid Weekly (Insert Hourly Rate, e.g., $18.50 – $22.00/hr)

Job Description

Centurion Security Group is actively seeking qualified, highly professional Protection Officers (PPO / Armed Security Officers) to join our team serving the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department contract.

In this role, you will provide high-level armed physical security, access control, and safety operations across critical government and judicial facilities in Tampa, including the County Center Building, Edgecomb Building, and Clerk/State Attorney & Public Defender Facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain visible, static, and roving armed security posts across county facilities.
  • Monitor building access control points, visitor screening, and perimeter safety.
  • Respond swiftly and appropriately to emergency situations, security threats, or disturbances.
  • Conduct routine foot inspections of courtrooms, lobbies, and office spaces.
  • Write clear, detailed, and legible daily activity and incident reports.
  • Coordinate effectively with local law enforcement, county personnel, and site management.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Florida security statutes, Use of Force policies, and post orders.

Available Shift Schedules

We offer multiple shift options to fit your availability:

  • Option 1 (Clerk/Public Defender Bldg): Sun–Tue (06:45–18:45) + Wed (06:45–12:45) | 39 hrs/wk
  • Option 2 (Edgecomb Bldg Armed 2): Wed (12:45–18:45) + Thu–Sat (06:45–18:45) | 39 hrs/wk
  • Option 3 (County Center Bldg): Mon–Fri (10:00–19:00) | 40 hrs/wk
  • Option 4 (Split Site - County Center & Edgecomb): Mon–Wed (07:00–17:00) + Fri (08:00–17:00) | 35 hrs/wk
  • Option 5 (Split Site - County Center & State Attorney Bldg): Mon–Fri (Day Shifts: 07:00/07:30 start) | 40 hrs/wk

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Licensing: Active Florida Class "D" Security License AND Class "G" Statewide Firearm License (Required or willing to obtain).
  • Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of armed security, law enforcement, corrections, or military experience preferred.
  • Firearms: Must possess an approved firearm and duty gear in accordance with state and company standards.
  • Background Check: Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, drug screening, and criminal history check.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Skills: Strong verbal communication, conflict de-escalation, professional demeanor, and sound decision-making under pressure.

Upcoming Licensing & Requalification Training Sessions

Need to obtain or renew your Florida Class "G" Statewide Firearms License? Our training partner, Charlie Group Operational, will be conducting local sessions in the area:

  • 28-Hour Class "G" Initial Firearms Course: August 14 – 17
  • 4-Hour Annual Class "G" Requalification Sessions: August 15 & August 18
