Job description

Armed Security Officer | Federal Facility | License to Carry Required

SecurityRI is currently seeking professional and dependable Armed Security Officers for a federal government facility located in Cranston, Rhode Island. This position offers consistent hours on a stable federal contract and an opportunity to join one of Rhode Island's most established security providers while working in a structured access control and security screening environment.

About SecurityRI

SecurityRI has been protecting businesses and communities since 1981. As Rhode Island's License #1 security company, we provide professional security services throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts while offering stable employment, advancement opportunities, and a supportive team environment.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking reliable individuals who take pride in their work and understand the importance of professionalism, vigilance, customer service, and attention to detail. The ideal candidate is punctual, attentive, capable of working as part of a two-officer team, and committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment while providing a positive experience for employees, visitors, vendors, and contractors at a public-facing federal entrance. Officers must be comfortable holding a fixed post for extended periods, staying alert through repetitive screening tasks, and enforcing procedures consistently regardless of who is entering the facility.

Position Responsibilities

Armed Security Officers staff the facility's main entrance as one of two officers on post, maintaining a professional armed presence while controlling access for employees, visitors, contractors, and vendors. Officers verify identification against approved access lists, process and credential visitors, direct arrivals through the screening process, and ensure all site security policies and federal facility procedures are followed without exception.

Screening duties include operating the facility's biometric scanner for entry and identity verification, conducting screenings using handheld metal detection wands, inspecting bags and packages where required, and denying or escalating entry when credentials, identification, or screening results do not clear. Officers manage queue flow at the entrance to keep the checkpoint orderly during peak arrival periods while maintaining full screening standards.

Officers monitor CCTV and entrance security equipment, watch for suspicious activity or unattended items in and around the entrance, and maintain constant radio communication with the partner officer and dispatch throughout the shift. The two officers coordinate staggered lunch coverage so the entrance is never left unstaffed, with one officer maintaining full post coverage while the other is on break. Officers respond to alarms, medical situations, disturbances, and security concerns following post order and escalation procedures, and complete accurate incident reports and daily activity reports documenting all notable events, entries of concern, equipment issues, and post activity across the shift. Officers serve as a direct representative of both SecurityRI and our client and are expected to remain alert, professional, and customer-focused for the full duration of their shift.

Requirements

Applicants must possess a valid Rhode Island License to Carry and already hold an active permit at the time of application. Candidates must also possess a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to remain alert, composed, and professional throughout their shift, including during extended periods at a fixed post. Applicants must be comfortable operating biometric scanners, metal detection wands, two way radios, and surveillance systems, maintaining detailed logs and reports, and interacting with a wide range of individuals in a controlled, professional manner.

Applicants must successfully complete all required client specific training and firearms qualification standards, be legally authorized to perform armed security duties under all applicable federal, state, and local laws, and pass all required background investigations and client specific screening requirements. Officers must be able to stand and remain on post for extended periods and respond physically to a security situation if required. Previous security, military, law enforcement, or corrections experience is preferred but not required. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, reliability, strong observation skills, sound judgment, and the discipline to follow post orders precisely.

Compensation/Benefits

SecurityRI offers competitive compensation based on experience, qualifications, performance, reliability, and overall fit. Following the successful completion of the introductory period, employees may be considered for compensation adjustments, advancement opportunities, and additional responsibilities based on business needs and individual performance.

We also offer weekly pay, direct management support, and access to additional shifts throughout our portfolio across Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
