Job Description:

We are seeking a Lead Construction Design Engineer to develop temporary civil and structural designs for bridge and infrastructure construction projects.

This role can be based in either our Richmond, VA or Annapolis Junction, MD office.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and review temporary construction engineering designs for safety, constructability, and code compliance.
  • Provide leadership and direction to other design engineers and CAD modelers. Foster a collaborative work environment that encourages innovation and accountability, work closely with senior management to identify and deliver opportunities for the development and growth of all team members under their supervision.
  • Work and communicate effectively with internal entities such as other design engineers, CAD modelers, and field personnel as well as external entities such as clients, owners, vendors, and consultants to develop safe, economic, and appropriate engineering solutions.
  • Work with construction operations teams to optimize means and methods, utilizing in-house materials where possible, and develop efficient designs.
  • Coordinate various project schedules to manage needs of completed engineered submittals.
  • Understand varying contract and safety requirements to develop plans safely and in accordance with owner specifications.
  • Manage third-party reviews and complete execution of construction engineering submittals.
  • Review project documents with construction estimating staff to develop pre-bid means, methods, and construction engineering cost estimates.
  • Represent company during client and project management meetings.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Structural, or related Engineering field.
  • Current Professional Engineer license in Virginia and/or Maryland with ability to obtain other states as necessary.
  • Minimum 10 years of design experience engineering temporary construction works (shoring, erection, demolition etc.) for bridge/highway projects.

  • Knowledge and experience with the detailed engineering design of:

  • Shoring systems
  • Cofferdams
  • Erection plans
  • Bridge demolition
  • Concrete formwork
  • Slope stability
  • Foundations
  • Able to learn additional engineering responsibilities, as well as a variety of other engineered systems
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, RISA-3D, MathCAD, Microsoft Office products, and other software utilized in engineering design
  • Demonstrated time management, multi-tasking, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to coordinate with estimating and operations staff.

Expected annual salary range for this position is: $125,000 - $190,000.00 USD Annual plus profit share.

This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity.
