Your Opportunity
The Web Developer builds, optimizes and maintains high-performance of the company's corporate website and 150+ independently branded student housing community websites built with WordPress. This role focuses on design, development, and maintaining scalable web applications and internal tools, including complex WordPress multisite networks, Git workflows, version-controlled deployments. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with a process-oriented mindset to support rebuilds, integrations and ongoing web enhancements and collaborates with cross-functional teams to support business objectives.
This temporary position is based out of our office in Chicago, IL and is fully on-site.
Your Responsibilities
Website Design & development
  • Build and manage custom WordPress themes, plugins and PHP-based solutions, while optimizing multisite performance.
  • Lead the design, development and maintenance of the company's websites, ensuring optimal functionality, user experience (UX) and accessibility.
  • Lead the redesign and launch of websites for new acquisitions, ensuring a seamless brand integration.
  • Troubleshoot cross-platform issues, perform root cause analysis and integrate third-party APIs to enhance functionality.
  • Oversee website governance, ensuring consistency, accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
User Experience & Conversion Optimization
  • Conduct UX audits and implement best practices to enhance engagement and lead conversion.
  • Work closely with design and development teams to create user-friendly interfaces and mobile-responsive experiences.
  • Leverage A/B testing and heat mapping tools to drive data-driven website improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with ADA and WCAG accessibility standards.
SEO & Analytics
  • Implement SEO best practices, including content optimization, metadata management and structured data implementation.
  • Track, analyze, and report on website traffic, engagement and conversion rates, providing strategic recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and deliver regular performance reports for leadership, highlighting insights and opportunities.
Digital Marketing & Campaign Support
  • Support Marketing and Sales team initiatives for campaigns, promos and events
  • Manage integrations with third-party marketing tools, including CRM platforms, analytics tools and social media APIs.
Vendor & Technology Management
  • Manage relationships with web hosting providers, development agencies and software vendors.
  • Oversee DNS management and ensure compliance with licensing agreements.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to enhance website functionality and user experience.

What We Require
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Web development, UX design and digital marketing strategy.
  • Strong proficiency in WordPress or similar CMS platforms.
  • Expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and front-end development.
  • Experience with SEO strategy, website analytics, and conversion optimization.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Google Analytics and A/B testing tools.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and implement strategic improvements.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.

Operational Details
  • Job location is based in-office at Scion's Chicago corporate headquarters.
  • Working hours consist of standard daytime business hours.

The base salary range for this full-time position is base + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
