Handling rejection is a common challenge in temporary cold calling roles, as many prospects may decline your offer or end the call abruptly. To stay motivated, it's important to view each call as a learning opportunity and not take refusals personally. Successful specialists often set small, achievable goals for each shift—like completing a certain number of calls or securing a few positive responses—which helps maintain focus and momentum. Job description

Chesapeake Climate Action Network seeks an experienced electoral organizer to coordinate volunteer engagement for the 2026 elections.

The Federal Elections Coordinator will work with CCAN’s sister organization, CCAN Action Fund to manage a volunteer-driven independent expenditure voter contact campaign to elect climate champions in three House Congressional races. The Coordinator will mobilize CCAN Action Fund supporters and recruit new volunteers in priority districts, train them in voter contact tactics, and track voter education and turnout goals.

About Us

Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) is the only group in the Chesapeake region of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC dedicated exclusively to building a powerful grassroots movement to fight climate change. We envision an equitable energy future where truly clean sources of power — solar, wind, and geothermal — sustain every aspect of our lives, efficiency is prioritized, and fossil fuels have been phased out.

CCAN Action Fund is CCAN’s advocacy arm. Through voter education, lobbying, and participation in the electoral process, we seek to move our country into leadership on the most urgent global issue of our time: the climate crisis.

Primary Responsibilities of the Federal Elections Coordinator

  • Develop and manage voter contact plans in priority House Districts. Research districts to determine voter contact goals and priority phone banking targets, and create timelines and benchmarks to hit voter contact goals.
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteer teams. Develop an outreach plan to build relationships with existing supporters and identify new volunteers, and train and mentor volunteers with leadership potential to lead events and support other volunteers.
  • Lead weekly phone banks. Create and manage a phone bank schedule, accurately tracking and reporting voter data and contact results.
  • Communications and writing. Draft statewide and location-specific email action alerts and social media content to recruit volunteers and update supporters about key races. Draft calling scripts for voter contact.

Personal Administrative Duties

  • Use CCAN’s Time and Attendance software to log work hours correctly.
  • Keep a travel log and submit it frequently for reimbursement, minimally monthly

Qualifications

  • Passion for climate solutions.
  • At least two years of paid or volunteer electoral organizing experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to adapt to various voter demographics.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable collaborating with a team.
  • Weekend and evening availability with flexible hours through the November election.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Details

The Federal Elections Coordinator is a full-time, temporary, overtime-exempt position from August 1 through November 13, 2026. The salary for this position is $1,400 per week, plus benefits including paid vacation and sick days, health insurance including dental and vision, and a retirement plan.

To accommodate volunteer schedules, evening and weekend work is expected. The Coordinator will report to CCAN’s Federal Director and will work with them to determine their weekly schedule. Full-time jobs at CCAN are hybrid, and this position can be based in Virginia Beach, VA, or Takoma Park, MD.
