Job description

Job Title: Powder Coating Technician

Responsibilities

  • Clean, sandblast, and prepare parts for coating to ensure proper surface condition and adhesion.
  • Measure and mask parts accurately for paint and powder coating preparation according to specifications and drawings.
  • Apply powder coating and wet paint using spray guns, HVLP spray systems, and automated equipment while following all process parameters and quality standards.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain spray booths, paint booths, curing ovens, and related coating equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Monitor coating thickness, coverage, and finish during application and make necessary adjustments to achieve required results.
  • Inspect finished surfaces for uniformity, adhesion, coverage, color accuracy, and defects such as runs, sags, or contamination.
  • Perform touch-ups and rework on coated parts when necessary to meet quality requirements.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to understand part specifications, coating requirements, and masking details.
  • Use hand and power tools, tape measures, and other shop equipment safely and effectively during preparation and finishing.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures related to surface preparation, coating application, and equipment operation.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience in industrial painting or powder coating.
  • Hands-on experience with surface preparation processes, including cleaning, masking, sandblasting, coating, and curing.
  • Proficiency with powder coating systems, spray guns, HVLP spray equipment, and curing ovens.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings to determine coating and masking requirements.
  • Skilled in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for preparation and finishing work.
  • Proficiency in using tape measures and basic measuring tools to ensure accurate masking and coverage.
  • Ability to perform visual inspections and quality checks on coated parts for defects, coverage, and finish quality.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Westminster, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00/hr.
