Job description

Job Title: CNC Programmer / Lab Fabricator (2nd Shift)

Job Description

This role combines CNC programming and hands-on fabrication in a clean laboratory environment that supports the production of polyethylene used in medical devices. You will primarily produce precision test pieces for batch testing, while also programming and modifying CNC mill programs, developing new methodologies when needed, and ensuring high-quality, deburred components that meet strict specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Produce precision polyethylene components that will be used for batch testing in a laboratory setting.
  • Create, edit, and modify CNC programs as needed to support ongoing lab fabrication work.
  • Set up CNC equipment accurately, including workholding and tooling, to ensure repeatable and reliable machining operations.
  • Troubleshoot CNC mill issues, including machine errors, program issues, and process inconsistencies, and implement corrective actions.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure parts meet dimensional and geometric requirements.
  • Apply GD&T principles to verify that parts conform to specified tolerances and design intent.
  • Use measuring tools to inspect and verify dimensions, tolerances, and overall quality of machined parts.
  • Deburr parts thoroughly to ensure smooth edges and surfaces suitable for use in medical-related testing applications.
  • Maintain accurate records and enter information in an office setting related to parts produced, programs used, and process parameters.
  • Collaborate with the other lab team member as needed while working independently on daily tasks.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area within the lab environment.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of basic CNC programming experience.
  • Hands-on experience creating and editing CNC programs as needed for production.
  • Proficiency in operating a Haas CNC mill, including setup and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Experience with deburring machined parts to meet quality and safety standards.
  • Skill in using measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Familiarity with Mastercam or similar CNC programming software.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining and process issues on CNC mills.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with polyethylene or similar plastics in a machining or fabrication environment.
  • Comfort working in a quiet, focused environment with limited direct supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.
  • Organizational skills to manage programs, documentation, and part records effectively.
  • Steel-toe footwear suitable for an industrial or lab environment.

Why Work Here?

You will join a stable, long-tenured team where employees tend to stay for many years, reflecting a supportive and consistent work culture. The environment emphasizes safety and cleanliness, with annual reimbursement for safety glasses and steel-toe footwear to support your well-being. You will work in a quiet, focused setting that offers autonomy, allowing you to take ownership of your work while contributing to products used in critical medical applications.

Work Environment

This is a 2nd shift position, Monday through Friday from 1:30 PM to 9:30 PM. You will work in a clean laboratory environment that supports the production of polyethylene used in medical devices. The role centers on operating a Haas CNC mill and using related measuring tools in a controlled, quiet area with many fans, which helps maintain a comfortable temperature that does not get too hot or too cold. You will have your own office space for entering information and managing documentation, and you will work alongside one other person in the lab while primarily operating independently. The facility expects the use of appropriate safety gear, including safety glasses and steel-toe footwear, which are supported through annual reimbursement programs.
